Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Thursday, 3 July 2014 "The Hills Are Alive...!"
You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands (Isaiah 55:13)
Isaiah is announcing to his fellow countrymen, exiles in Babylon that the unbelievable is about to happen: they will be going home!! After 50 years living in exile, far from home, they are now about to go home. It's such an amazing thing that all creation joins in the celebration - as Julie Andrews sang, the hills are alive with the sound of music. And the trees clap their hands. Charles Wesley echoed this sentiment in his great Easter hymn: "Christ The Lord is risen today...Sing ye heavens and earth reply, Alleluia!" Both "resurrection" events are so awesome that all creation joins in the celebration. And that's what Paul calls our conversion, our deep connection with Jesus: a New Creation! And so we are. Amen.
Remember, for the Sundays of July we will have only ONE worship service - at 9:40
