Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Friday, 4 July 2014 "Freedom"

Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Friday, 4 July 2014 "Freedom"
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on my, because The Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.  He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor  (Isaiah 61:1, 2).
You likely recognize this as the first sermon Jesus ever preached - in Luke 4: 18, 19.  It's a good word for us on July 4, our "Independence Day," because it makes clear both Isaiah's and Jesus' hopes for true freedom - that it might lead to broken hearts being mended, the poor being cared for, prisoners of whatever that binds might be set free.  May you and I be a part of this kind of freedom.  Amen
Remember, for the Sundays of July we will have only ONE worship service - at 9:40
