In 1948, Rev. Elizabeth Vennum, Global Council member was asked to pray about a challenging project for NMI. On her way home from a trip to Kansas City, God gave her an idea. At the Global NMI Council meeting in 1949, Vennum shared the plan of a love gift, modeled after the sacrifice of the woman who anointed Jesus' head with the expensive perfume poured from the alabaster jar.
The Council unanimously adopted the plan and then the Board of General Superintendents approved that the Alabaster funds be used exclusively for buildings and properties in cross-cultural ministries.Since the first Alabaster offering was taken in 1949, Nazarenes across the world have given $100 million to bless their brothers and sisters assisting them with the purchase of land and construction of churches, schools, medical facilities and homes for missionaries and national workers. Alabaster Resources are Here.

7 Ways To Help Your Organization Stand Out
Your community is filled with companies and churches. So how do you keep your organization's profile on the top shelf-or even on the ceiling? Based on my experiences with corporations, non-profits, churches and organizations worldwide, I think there are at least 7 steps you can take.
1. STAY ON TRACK. More than likely you have taken time to construct a statement of mission-documenting the "What's," the "Whys," and the "Wherefores" of your organization. Your next important task will be to keep your organization and it products or services on that "purpose track."
2. DON'T ADVERTISE SOMETHING YOU CAN'TDELIVER. The integrity of many organizations has been tarnished by 100-dollar ads for 10-dollar programs! If you can't deliver the "Best," "Biggest," or "Most Spectacular" output on the face of the earth then don't promise it.
3. TREAT STAFF WITH RESPECT. As someone once said, "You're not only known by the company you keep, you're also known by how you keep your company." Your encouragement, compassion, training, and support for your staff will soon be well known in your community.
4. BE OPEN ABOUT PLANS AND PROGRAMS. Many leaders act like they're conducting an undercover operation. A lack of publicity about organizational programs or plans is a sure-fire integrity killer. Keep everyone in the loop-from staff members to stakeholders to onlookers.
5. COMMUNICATE GOOD INFORMATION ABOUT FINANCES. Your constituents want to be informed when the cash "flows" and when the cash "ebbs." One of the most important documents that an organization can publish is its financial report.
6. PROTECT THE INTEGRITY OF THE WORKERS. When that new hire walks through the door of your organization, you are responsible to provide for more than health benefits and payroll. You are responsible to provide a safe environment. Safety awareness includes more than passing out hard hats; it includes providing an environment where staff members . . .
Work without fear of all forms of harassment,
Feel accepted and appreciated, and
Feel free to contribute to the organization's mission with excellence.
7. FOCUS ON THE MAIN THING. Probably your greatest challenge will be to keep the organizational oars in the water, paddling in the direction of its mission. Along the way, you'll be tempted to take side trips or look for shortcuts. Your institution's integrity will also be known by its focus. Can it avoid expensive or pop mission add-ons? That's up to you. When all else fails, stay the course.
High profile organizations don't peak accidentally. They reach the top because their leaders plan for it.[Stan Toler]

Mission Drift - by David A. Busic

Harvard is a respected university, but it no longer maintains its foundational calling to be a thoroughly Christian school. Though its diplomascontinue to read Christo et Ecclesiae and Veritas (or “Truth for Christ and the Church”), the school no longer resembles a Christ-centered institution. Yale University was founded in 1701 by Cotton Mather, a New England pastor, along with a Christian businessman named Elihu Yale, as a reaction to their concerns over the secularization of Harvard. They determined to establish a place of higher learning that would not relinquish its Christian values in the name of education. Their motto was Lux et Veritas (“Light and Truth”). Their passion to walk in the light of God was resolute and firm. Yet today, while Yale excels in many other areas, spiritual formation is not one of them.
“… let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”- Hebrews 12:1, NIV
What happened to these revered institutions? The same thing that happens to any college, denomination, or local church that forgets its intentional focus of why it exists. This is the beginning of mission drift.
Greer and Horst state, “Mission drift unfolds slowly. Like a current, it carries organizations away from their core purpose and identity” (18). In physics, this is known as the second law of thermodynamics. That is, in the natural order of the universe, things degenerate rather than come together. Even the hottest fires, if left untended, eventually go out.
We must maintain a laser-focused intentionality regarding our purpose if we are to avoid mission drift.- Dr. David Busic
Why does the Church of the Nazarene exist? To make Christlike disciples in the nations. That is our mission. Why does your local church exist? To make Christlike disciples in your community. We must maintain a laser-focused intentionality regarding our purpose if we are to avoid mission drift.
I am convicted by these words: “Here’s the reality: Mission drift is the natural course of organizations, and it takes focused attention to safeguard against it. Once an organization ignores its source of heat, drift is only a matter of time” (20).
Mission drift is not inevitable. Those charged with spiritual leadership face diversions from many directions. To pay careful, humble, and relentless attention to the heart of our mission is an essential part of faithful leadership. But we must stay close to the “source of our heat” or drift is only a matter of time.

New Team Member Welcomed to Philippines.
Manila, Philippines
The Philippine and Micronesia Field office welcomes a new team member, Virgil Albertson, as the interim Field Treasurer.
Virgil is no stranger to the Philippines as he volunteered in the disaster zone after Typhoon Yolanda struck a year ago.
Read more of his story here.NEW TEAM MEMBER WELCOMED TO PHILIPPINES.
Manila, Philippines: The Asia-Pacific Region and the Philippine Micronesia Field, are very excited to welcome our newest member to the team.
Virgil Albertson, arrived to the Philippines on February 11th. Originally from Florida, he has come to the Region to serve as the interim Field Treasurer for the Philippine and Micronesia Field.
Overseas missions are not new to Virgil. He has been involved in several mission trips through Calvary Chapel, including short-term assignments in Ecuador and Guatemala.
While working as an insurance agent, Virgil continued to feel the call in his heart to missions. A friend introduced him to the Church of the Nazarene two and a half years ago. After this, he began to research the church and its missions programs. His call to serve would result in his volunteering with the relief efforts following Super Typhoon Yolanda that struck the Central Philippines in November of 2013. During that time, he spent 3 weeksworking alongside the local church as part of the Nazarene Disaster Response.
Virgil returned to his home in Idaho with a renewed commitment to serve the Lord wherever He called. This commitment led him to sell his home and many of his belongings in order to be ready and available to be used by God. It would be just a short three months later that Virgil would be answering the call to once again return to the Philippines.
“I can’t wait to get started and do my part in the great work of our Lord here in the Philippines and Micronesia,” stated Albertson.
If you would like information on how to partner with Virgil in his ministry, please follow this link.
