The Upper Room Daily Devotional from Nashville, Tennessee, United States “THE POWER OF GOD’S WORD” for Saturday, 2 July 2016 with Scripture: Psalm 19:7 (6) It rises at one side of the sky,
circles around to the other side,
and nothing escapes its heat.
8 (7) The Torah of Adonai is perfect,
restoring the inner person.
The instruction of Adonai is sure,
making wise the thoughtless.
9 (8) The precepts of Adonai are right,
rejoicing the heart.
The mitzvah of Adonai is pure,
enlightening the eyes.
10 (9) The fear of Adonai is clean,
enduring forever.
The rulings of Adonai are true,
they are righteous altogether,
11 (10) more desirable than gold,
than much fine gold,
also sweeter than honey
or drippings from the honeycomb.
-------
The decrees of the LORD are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold.[Psalm 19:9-10 (NIV)]
Having worked for almost 20 years in the production and proofreading of Christian books, pamphlets, and newspapers, I sometimes see myself as a professional of God’s word. While performing my duties, I read the transcription of many Bible verses, correcting grammatical errors or misinterpretations. Sometimes, I fear that my becoming so familiar with the Bible verses will cause them to become meaningless and to lose their effect on me.
Then I read touching messages, personal witnesses, or original interpretations of the Bible; and I feel deeply moved. Resisting the transforming power of scripture is impossible for me — even when I am working and not in meditation.
I have found that throughout the years, my livelihood has become a constant devotional time. God finds me in the midst of words and letters and allows me to see beyond them. I do not need to worry, for God’s word never loses its power.
