(Thermo) Nuclear Family: Part 1
Join The Reverend Dr. Robert Flores (or just Robert)
for this week's Message
We may not be nuclear scientists (or if you are, congrats to you!) but we can all grasp the idea that when something is “nuclear” it has a ton of energy and power. Used in the right way it can be a tremendous source for good. Used in the wrong way…well, it’s nothing short of a disaster. We’ve all heard about the nuclear family, where there’s a mom, dad, two kids, and the family dog. But many of our families don’t reflect that perfect nuclear dynamic. Instead, our families lean toward being thermonuclear: Ready for an explosion when we hit the button and consistently on the verge of a battle that only assures our mutual destruction. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Instead, we can find ways to reduce the threat of meltdown and bring a quiet, lasting peace. Join us for Thermonuclear Family, our series where we learn how to navigate this high-energy and tension-filled reality in a way that won’t leave us in a frustrating fall out. There’s hope for even the most charged circumstance!
EPHESIANS 5:21 (NIV)
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
SERVICE TIMES:
We have 2 services on Sunday mornings. They both share the same message and communicator, but with a varied worship context and expression:
THE SANCTUARY meets at 9:00am and is traditional worship setting that embraces historical hymns and liturgical traditions with an authentic faith.
THE AUDITORIUM meets at 10:30am and is a worship experience where the music is louder, led by a live band, and authentic faith is celebrated.Kids (birth - 5th grade)
Torrey Kids meet in the Berry Center and The Admin Buidling during both services.
Youth (6th - 12th grade)
Torrey Youth meet at 10:30am in the Youth Room in Hashinger Hall.101 MEMBERSHIP CLASS

TPC CHANCEL CHOIR: JOIN US
My name is Jim Tompkins-MacLaine and I am the new organist/choir director here at Torrey Pines Church. It is my hope that we can start to grow our choir to a group of about thirty. . . and we would love to have you be a part of it. “But I don’t read music . . . “ (Many, many choral singers don’t read music. That’s why we rehearse, so you can learn your part!) “But I just don’t have the time to dedicate to it . . .” (The time commitment is minimal: 7 – 8:30 on Thursday nights and the Sunday morning service, with a warm up . . .); “But I only sing in the shower. . . (The woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best – Henry Van Dyke. The wonderful thing about singing in a choir is that there are other people there to help you!) I know there are 10,000 other good excuses NOT to sing in choir, but here’ are a few good reason to SING! It’s fun! It’s praise! It’s service! It’s fellowship! It’s good for the heart and great for the soul!
The Chancel Choir has a great history here and I hope to continue that tradition. I have sung in, played for and conducted choirs, amateur, academic and professional for almost 44 years. I believe that variety is the spice of life, so while one week we may sing something from a Bach cantata, the next week may be Gospel, or something from the romantic era, or a spiritual, or contemporary choral . . . we have a wonderful library full of beautiful, intriguing choral anthems.
JOIN US for choir rehearsals: Thursdays, 7 p.m.
We need all voice parts: soprano, alto, tenor and bass. If you’re not sure what part you sing, we can figure that out in a few seconds.
