Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, July 29, 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United Statrs
Greetings RezDowntowners,
It is a beautiful Friday in Kansas City. After last night's Community Dinner and Holy Communion with Centennial United Methodist Church, I woke up rested and excited about the weekend ahead and this day was just icing on the cake. It's been another full week at the church with lots of activities and gatherings seeking to build Christian community. It has been awesome seeing so many people and connecting with neighbors. I hope you have taken time this week to be intentional about getting to know your neighbors, hopefully becoming friends with them as we seek to fulfill our call to love God with everything we have and to love our neighbors as ourselves. This weekend we will be continuing this sermon series by going Next Door with the Art of Neighboring! I'd love for you to share your stories of neighboring with me, feel free to email me, connect with me on social media or simply reach out to the office to let me know how you've experienced life in your neighborhood!
This weekend we'll shift our focus by looking at the power of invitation and interruption. As people seeking to give, love and invite our neighbors to join us (just as Christ did), one thing I've realized is that we also have a deep need to be open to those same gifts and invitations as they interrupt our lives. The power of invitation is really found in the response of the invitee, and the beauty of interruption often rests in how one receives it. Our willingness to respond and receive from others plays a huge role in our ability to love our neighbors. I am looking forward to sharing this weekend with you as we continue living into the art of neighboring. At RezDowntown we will continue to invite you to join us in blessing our neighbors at Wendell Phillips/Crispus Attucks by providing school supplies for our elemetary school students in need of supplies in order to make this a great start to the school year. On Saturday night, we'll also be hosting a special worship night on Saturday night immediately following our Saturday evening service. Please invite friends and join us for what is going to be an amazing evening!
