Tribute to Dr Samuel Hynd, SwazilandThe popular doctor, Dr. Samuel Hynd, who oversaw the birth of King Mswati III of Swaziland, died peacefully while at his home in Swaziland, in the morning hours of Thursday, 18 August 2016. He was aged 92.
Daughter, Elizabeth, said her father had not complained of either sickness or any pain. "On Sunday he was okay, I even took him for a ride and we passed by the church where we found a young woman preaching,'' she said.
Elizabeth added on Tuesday, he suddenly stopped taking food and liquids. She said they started to be suspicious that something could be amiss with her father. She immediately called her father's closest friends and relatives who came for support and they sang hymns and he mumbled along. The following morning at around 5:30 a.m., her father stopped breathing. Like the patriarchs of old, Dr. Hynd simply folded his hands and 'passed on to glory'.
Dr. Samuel W. Hynd, CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire), was born on the 19th December, 1924, in the home of his grandfather, Dr. George Sharpe, the founder of the Church of the Nazarene in the British Isles.
At the age of six months, he travelled with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. David Hynd, to Swaziland, where his parents founded the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital and the Manzini Mission Station. The later founding of schools and colleges made this the largest mission station of the Church of the Nazarene. Samuel Hynd returned to Glasgow for his medical studies, serving as District President of the NYPS and being one of the initiators of the annual conference-holidays known as 'Institute'. He graduated in 1950 and was appointed a Nazarene missionary to Manzini, succeeding his father as head of the station in 1961.
After the independence of Swaziland, Dr. Hynd served as Minister of Health in the government of King Sobhuza II, and was later to be the doctor in charge at the birth of the prince who became the present king of Swaziland, Mswati III. Over the decade following his 80th birthday, Dr Hynd raised funds and established a new clinic to combat the AIDs epidemic. Dr Hynd was made a CBE by the Queen in 1998.
Dr Hynd's memorial service was held at Sharpe Memorial Church of the Nazarene in Manzini, Swaziland.[Excerpts from The Swazi Observer Newspaper, 19 August 2016 and Dr. Tom Noble, Manchester, England]

Each evening, the participants were challenged with the powerful preaching from Rev. Mashangu Maluleka, who was anointed
with the power of the Holy Spirit. His preaching could take 2 hours, but the audience wanted to hear more. Rev. Maluleka was able to communicate and expound the Word of God in the Africa way, preaching the holiness message and helping the people to understand sanctification in their context. Every evening after the preaching, the altar was full of people who want to present their burdens to God while others were renewing their relationship with God.
On the last day Rev. Paul Mtambo administered the Holy Communion to all participants including the guests.
The participants testified that this conference was one of the best conferences in the country, and their lives were equipped and challenged. They thanked the organizing committee.[Rev. Gershon Kwerakwera, Malawi National Board Chairman]

One Year in Guinea-Bissau and Youth CampWith many blessings the young people of Guinea-Bissau finished their youth camp 2016. The camp was intended to help young people to make intelligent decisions, by putting God in first place and allowing Him to permeate all areas of their lives, including relationships, studies, business, church service--all areas of their lives.

We are thankful for the youth pastors who presented the issues in a clear and challenging way, highlighting the fact that satisfaction will empower them in their daily lives. Christian author, Philip Yancey, says that it seems Jesus prefers the idea of working with "recruits" who may not hold much promise in the eyes of the world. But we know that through His power, we can do great things.
Through God's grace, each young person was able to pay for their registration and food. We are also thankful to the women who helped in the kitchen as they are a gift from God.
We did service projects that we called, "Many Hands, One heart, for Our Guinea". Through evangelism, the entire group went to the national hospital, Simão Mendes, delivering 100 packages with gifts and many more things for the children who were in the pediatric ward. We also had the opportunity to pray for the sick. One of the nurses asked if we could continue to visit the hospital to pray for the sick. Many of our young people were shocked as it was the first time I have ever had an experience like this.
We are also thankful for the donation of t-shirts for the campers and also for the donation of an acoustic guitar to assist us in the praise and worship.

Youth doing evangelism at gov. hospitalOn Sunday, the 4th of September, the camp was concluded with a special worship service to commemorate the first anniversary of the Church of the Nazarene in the country of Guinea-Bissau. In this service, we were able to not only celebrate, but to also share in the Lord's Supper with all of our pastors and leaders in ministry.
The camp proved to be a very fruitful time, in spite of the effort and the lack of sleep, as several young people committed their lives to God. Thank you for continuing to pray for the young people of Guinea-Bissau.[Rev. Mario and Mrs. Irmay Martinez, Missionaries to Guinea-Bissau]

As many as 183 youth were in attendance from 5-7 August 2016. The teaching included the NYI charter by Mrs. Madalitso Kwerakwera, our calling and our core values by Rev. Before the campers went home, the day was completed by the entire group sharing in holy communion together.
We thank God that the youth are growing spiritually through these camps, and that 63 young people gave their lives to Jesus Christ.[Rev. Gershon Kwerakwera, DS Lowershire District]

Prayer for Dr. John SeamanDuring a recent trip to the US state of Tennessee to visit with family members, USA Michigan District Superintendent,
Dr. John Seaman, began having seizures and was rushed to the hospital. It was determined that he had a brain tumour, but the type and scope of tumour was unknown.
After consultations with doctors, Dr. Seaman was taken into surgery on the 31st of August back at his home in Michigan. Dr. Seaman came through surgery fine and the tumour has declared cancerous, but the severity of the cancer and the type of treatment that he will need is something that will be determined in the next few days. Please continue to lift the Seaman family in your prayers as they walk this difficult path of illness and treatment.
Prior to serving as district superintendent, Dr. Seaman and his wife, Linda, and their three children, served as missionaries to Martinique and Côte d'Ivoire from 1976 to 2003. Many of our West African brothers and sisters will fondly remember the Seaman family.[Michigan District Facebook Page]
