Today at 11am: Declaring Moral Higher Ground from Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II via Groundswell of The Auburn Theological Seminary in New York, New York, United States for Monday, 12 September 2016

Today at 11am: Declaring Moral Higher Ground from Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II via Groundswell of The Auburn Theological Seminary in New York, New York, United States for Monday, 12 September 2016
Dear Friends,
At 11am this morning, delegations of clergy will march and declare a moral higher ground. As a continuation of The Revival: Time for a Moral Revolution of Values, delegations are marching to deliver the Higher Ground Moral Declaration, which has been signed by you and thousands of people representing diverse beliefs, including over 2,000 clergy.
We are challenging what I call the “theological malpractice” of the so-called religious right that attempts to limit the moral debate in our country to issues such as prayer in public schools and abortion.
We know better than to accept this lie, and call on elected state leaders and candidates to a broad social justice agenda that includes: the economic liberation of all people; ensuring every child receives access to quality education; healthcare access for all; criminal justice reform; and ensuring historically marginalized communities have equal protection under the law.
Today, faith leaders from diverse traditions, people impacted by poverty, racism, and injustice, advocates, and activists will come together to make three moral declarations:
1. Delegations will read the “Higher Ground Moral Declaration,” a moral public policy framework, and deliver it to their respective Governors, U.S. Senators, and candidates for office;
2. Communities will be called to go to the polls and vote for candidates who have the highest capacity to advance moral public policy agendas;
3. On two weekends prior to the presidential election, faith leaders will be called to preach and teach in their churches, synagogues, and mosques, with a focus on the economic liberation of all people; ensuring every child receives access to quality education; healthcare access for all; criminal justice reform; and ensuring historically marginalized communities have equal protection under the law.
We invite you to join us as prophets of resistance, and attend a delivery in your state capitol. Click here to find a list of states that have organized rallies and details on each event.
Or you can deliver a digital version of the Moral Declaration to your state legislators and candidates through social media. Click here for our digital action guide, which includes the social media profiles of state governors, sample messages and graphics.
With our collective actions, we can return public discourse to our deepest moral and constitutional values, pushing for a moral agenda that stands against systemic racism, classism, poverty, xenophobia, and any attempt to promote hate towards any members of the human family.
Forward Together!
