Emergency response: Outbreak in Malawi from Chembe, Medical Director -- Malawi of The Partners in Health in Boston, Massachusetts, United States for Thursday, 29 September 2016
It's the worst drought in 35 years, Gary, and Malawi's poorest families have no clean water.
With little rainfall, thousands must drink from dirty, contaminated sources, and they're getting sick. In the last two months, we treated 103 people for typhoid—the most we've seen since 2012.
We're on the brink of a deadly outbreak, and we must reverse course—now.
Please, give an emergency gift of $15 to provide urgent typhoid care, clean water, and crucial sanitation supplies for families in Malawi. Give an emergency gift of $15 →

Unless we act now, it's going to get much worse. Last week alone, 27 people with typhoid came to the PIH-supported health centers in the region—the highest numbers we've seen in a single week.
And this scourge is serious. Left untreated, up to 30% of patients may die.
With your help, we'll distribute more water purification treatments that keep people safe. Provide more urgent care to those sickened by this scourge. Conduct moreawareness campaigns to educate families on prevention.
Together, we can stop this outbreak, but we must act now. Please, give today.
With gratitude,
Chembe
