We in the church find ourselves in the middle of a deep system change. This is a result of the rapid culture shifts our society is experiencing, and the challenges are both practical and theological. Traditions, rules, and hierarchical structures are being questioned at every level, including the ones found in the church.
In this week’s study of God Unbound, we are invited to “center down” and focus on Jesus as we navigate societal changes that will impact our church.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7
WEEK 3: AUTHORITY, DISCERNMENT, CALL
GO AND DOWho are the people in your church, small group, Sunday school class, Bible study group, or elsewhere that you consider to be “spiritual leaders”? Pray for God’s guidance to help you identify three or four spiritual leaders. In silence, “see” or recall a situation, where their action or attitude impressed on you. Now, write their names and the spiritual qualities that you admire in your journal or on paper. Then, decide to ask one of these spiritual leaders to meet you for coffee or tea and a 15-minute conversation. Be clear that your aim in this brief conversation is to ask how God developed in him or her the qualities of spiritual leadership that you admire. At the end of your time together, ask the person to pray for you, that you might mature, be filled with the Holy Spirit, and model the way of Jesus in your living.
What are the questions we might ask of a spiritual leader? What did you learn from the conversation.
