The Daily Guide. grow. pray. study. from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas, United States for Sunday, 01 January 2017 – "Prayer Tip: Christmas Through Joseph's Eyes"
Daily Scripture
Matthew 2:
13 After they had gone, an angel of Adonai appeared to Yosef in a dream and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother, and escape to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you to leave. For Herod is going to look for the child in order to kill him.” 14 So he got up, took the child and his mother, and left during the night for Egypt, 15 where he stayed until Herod died. This happened in order to fulfill what Adonai had said through the prophet,

“Out of Egypt I called my son.”[Matthew 2:15 Hosea 11:1]

"Prayer Tip"
As 2016 is wrapping up we begin to prepare for the new year. Some of us approach the New Year anxiously with fear about our political landscape, personal and professional challenges, health scares and economic uncertainty. The truth is that none of knows where 2017 will take us. We must continue on life’s journey one step and one day at a time.
The only certainty we have is that we don’t have to walk this path alone. God is near and he promises he will not leave our side. Let us make it our goal, our resolution to let God lead us into the new year. Let us seek to please him in winter, spring, summer and fall. I love the prayer below written by Thomas Merton. Let these words bless you and help you ring in the new year with a sense of hope and renewed purpose.
"My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always, though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone." – Thomas Merton[Ashly Cooley, Counseling & Support Ministries]
