Genesis 9:(v) 8 God spoke to Noach and his sons with him; he said, 9 “As for me — I am herewith establishing my covenant with you, with your descendants after you, 10 and with every living creature that is with you — the birds, the livestock and every wild animal with you, all going out of the ark, every animal on earth. 11 I will establish my covenant with you that never again will all living beings be destroyed by the waters of a flood, and there will never again be a flood to destroy the earth.” 12 God added, “Here is the sign of the covenant I am making between myself and you and every living creature with you, for all generations to come: 13 I am putting my rainbow in the cloud — it will be there as a sign of the covenant between myself and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth, and the rainbow is seen in the cloud; 15 I will remember my covenant which is between myself and you and every living creature of any kind; and the water will never again become a flood to destroy all living beings. 16 The rainbow will be in the cloud; so that when I look at it, I will remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of any kind on the earth.”
17 God said to Noach, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between myself and every living creature on the earth.”

I have seen many rainbows in my life. Some have been so beautiful that I have hurried to get my camera and take a picture. But I especially remember one rainbow. It seemed to stretch from one side of our neighborhood to the other. The colors were very bright and clear. I remember that I was carrying home groceries when I stopped to look at this rainbow. I stood there so long that my ice cream melted!
As I looked at that rainbow, I prayed. I felt like I could reach out and touch God. This was a time of praise, and I thanked God and gave Him all the glory for the beautiful rainbow. The rainbow soon faded away, but I still remember it many years later.
Our Bible verses tell us that God made a rainbow as a sign that He always keeps His promises. When we see a rainbow, we remember that God promised to never again send a flood to destroy all life on earth. God keeps all of His promises. You can always depend on Him and His Word.[Bonnie Hall]
"This rainbow is proof of the agreement that I made with all living things on earth."[Genesis 9:17b]
PRAYER: Lord, You are truly worthy of our praise and worship. In Jesus' name. Amen.

2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, along with everything in them. 2 On the seventh day God was finished with his work which he had made, so he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

Yesterday we read some verses from Genesis. Today and for the next few days, we will continue to look at verses found in Genesis.
My first year of college, I thought I was very smart. At the end of the first semester, I studied very hard for exams. I forced myself to stay awake and study all night. I skipped many meals. And I didn't take much time to pray.
Later, I found out that I didn't do well on the exams. But I noticed that the people who got good grades hadn't stayed up all night or gone without food. Those people took time to rest, to talk with God and to strengthen their bodies.
In our Bible Reading today, we learn that when God was finished creating the world, He rested. Later, God commanded the Israelites to rest on the seventh day of each week. God wants us to take care of our bodies and to rest. Then we can be strong to serve Him![Bonnie Hall
"But the seventh day is a day of rest in honor of the Lord your God...That is because the Lord worked six days and made the sky, the earth, the sea, and everything in them. And on the seventh day, he rested."[Exodus 20:10-11a]
PRAYER: Dear Father, I want to be strong so that I can serve You. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Genesis (1) for Tuesday, 7 March 2017 Deaf Devo of Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States Bible Reading: Genesis 1:9-13
Genesis 1:9 God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered together into one place, and let dry land appear,” and that is how it was. 10 God called the dry land Earth, the gathering together of the water he called Seas, and God saw that it was good.
11 God said, “Let the earth put forth grass, seed-producing plants, and fruit trees, each yielding its own kind of seed-bearing fruit, on the earth”; and that is how it was. 12 The earth brought forth grass, plants each yielding its own kind of seed, and trees each producing its own kind of seed-bearing fruit; and God saw that it was good. 13 So there was evening, and there was morning, a third day.

I was driving through the mountains. The road twisted and turned and went up and down. I was concentrating on my driving, so I did not have time to enjoy the scenery around me.
Then I came around a curve and saw a wide valley in front of me. I stopped so I could look at the land. It took my breath away! I could see farm workers in the fields far below and a large area of tall trees. I also could see a lake and a river. I praised God for the wonderful world He created.
What I saw made me think about our Bible verses today. These verses tell us that on the third day of creation, God made the dry land appear. And He put grass, plants and trees on the earth. That must have been very beautiful. "And God saw that this was good" (verse 12b).
Take time today to stop and look around you. Praise God for all the wonderful things He has made for you![Bonnie Hall]
"The earth grew grass and plants that made grain. And it grew trees that made fruit with seeds in it. Every plant made its own kind of seeds."[Genesis 1:12a]
PRAYER: Lord, You are awesome! Thank You for the wonderful world You made for me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
