X-CITING WORSHIP
Lenten Sermon Series. Dr. Cleaver will deliver his last part Lenten Sermon Series, "A New Blessing" - Numbers 24:1-9, Sunday March 26, at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the Paseo Campus and 10 a.m. at the Renaissance Campus. We will see you in worship!
Wednesday Night Live. Our exploration of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation continues. Led by Dr. 3 and the Pastoral Team, we wrestle with what the bible says, the cultural context, people, places of the time and what it means for us today. Join us Wednesday, March 29 when we will discuss Genesis 28-31. Join us at 7 p.m. in the Ministry Mall.
Palm Sunday. Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II will preach his annual Palm Sunday sermon April 9th. Mark your calendars now!

Rehearsals and Dress Rehearsals for St. James Holy Week
Rehearsals. Will be held at the Paseo campus every Tuesday up to April 4, at 6 pm - Men and 7 pm - Women.

Easter Egg Hunt Donation Request. We are asking for donations of individually wrapped candy, and/or pre-filled with candy plastic eggs. Collection boxes can be found in the Newton Lounge and the Narthex at the Paseo campus and Narthex at the Renaissance campus.
Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt. This year's event will take place on Saturday, April 15th at our Paseo campus at 11:00 a.m, and Noon at our Renaissance campus. Our goal is to distribute 5,000 eggs between both churches for our member and community children ages up to 11 yrs. or 5th grade. There will be food, games, Easter egg hunt and D.I.Y photos and face painting, this event will be rain or shine. WORSHIP MINISTRIES

Little Vessel Ushers and Youth Ushers. Children ages 5-11 and youth ages 12-18 serve as ushers every 3rd Sunday during 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship. No experience needed - on the job training is provided. The uniform is a white button down shirt and black slacks or skirt. Journey Growth Group. Sundays at 9:45 a.m. in the Boardroom on the first floor. Has God put something on your heart to do or accomplish? Are you struggling with where you are in your life? Come join our Journey class and learn different techniques to hold yourself accountable for God's vision in your life. Couples Class. This Sunday School class for married and engaged couples meet Sundays at 9:45 a.m in Room 2D. We're reading Anger: Taming a Powerful Emotion, by Dr. Gary Chapman. Senior Fitness & Bible Study. Join us at the Paseo Campus every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. for light to moderate exercise done from the comfort of a chair! A trained fitness expert will guide you through exercises that help strengthen you, and the fellowship will help motivate you. Then, stay for Senior Bible Study from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and get strengthened in the spirit! Feel free to bring a dish and join us in the potluck lunch following our study time.

GriefShare. No matter what the circumstances, grief recovery is a painful process. St. James is offering support during this process with our GriefShare recovery seminar and support group. We will work together on your journey from mourning to joy. This series will begin with Orientation April 20, at 6:00 p.m. and continue every Thursdaythereafter, at the same time, for 11 weeks. Encouragement Cards. In today's digital world, the simple act of sending a greeting card has become a rare act of care and kindness. Receiving cards makes people feel special and loved. We are excited to announce the resumption of the Encouragement Card initiative. On the first Sunday of each month, bring a get well or encouragement card for persons on the prayer list to the church. Sign your name on the card and feel free to add some words of encouragement. Please print the person's full name on the envelope, along with your return address. The cards can be dropped in the Encouragement Card box in the hallway. If you would like a name added to the prayer list, please contact the church office at 816-444-5588.
Bettylu's Closet. Bettylu's Closet needs donations of clean (children, women and men's) clothes, household items including: cutlery, dishes, glasses, small household appliances (blenders, toasters, mixers etc) and bed linens, rugs etc. Contact Bobbie Faulkner at 816-822-0299 or faulkner.c@sbcglobal.net and you can drop by your donations to the church during normal office hours.
CONNECTING MINISTRIES
Father-Daughter Dance. Tickets are now available for the 20th Annual Father-Daughter Dance. All ages are invited. Join us Saturday, March 25 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost is $30.00 per father (daughters are free). Tickets are available at the Welcome Center or by contacting Michael Hobson at 913-461-1100.

Hebrews Sponsorship. On Sunday, April 9 the St. James United Usher Boards will host Hebrews in the Ministry Mall immediately following 8 o'clock service. Please join them for fellowship and furthering the Vision of St. James UMC to Connect People with God in Practical Ways.
St. James UMC Care and Nurture Ministry Hosts "Safety First" A workshop designed to provide information to develop the awareness and skills to enhance personal and home safety the presenter will be Officer Gary Knapp of the Kansas City, MO Police Department, Saturday, April 22 @ 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., Ages 13 and under cannot attend and Ages 14 - 17 must come with an adult. ~ Continental Breakfast Served ~ Pre-Registration contact the church office at 816-444-5588.
St. James United Usher Boards 27th Annual Prayer Breakfast. The St. James United Usher Boards will host their 27th Annual Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, April 29, in the Fellowship Hall. Vocal Praises to God through Jesus Christ by Deborah Davis and Jason Goodman. A donation of $10 per person is asked; but no one will be turned away - Please ask any usher for details.
Bowling League. Starting up again May 9, on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. at Premier Bowling Alley (11400 E 350 HWY Raytown MO 64139). The league starts on Tuesday, May 16, at 6 p.m. and is open to all, so if you or someone you know likes to bowl this league is perfect for honing your skills. If you don't have your own bowling gear for the league, the bowling alley provides bowling balls and shoes. All proceeds are donated to the church. Connectors Needed. Volunteers are needed to assist at the Welcome Center each Sunday. Duties include assisting with electronic giving, registration for church events and activities, providing information, etc. Connectors at 8 a.m. worship are asked to serve from 7:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. Connectors at 11 a.m. worship are asked to serve from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Volunteer once each quarter or as your schedule allows. 40-140. We are sharing in a season of spiritual practices this year by leading students through 40 days of practices to follow in engaging with God. We will also offer 40-140 again, which is 40 days of devotional readings no more than 140 characters long. Please make sure you have registered for the 40-140 text messages by texting "rage" to 40650.
Scouting Ministry
Cub Scouts (Grades 1-5) will meet every 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Kidz Kingdom.

United Methodist Women - This Scholarship Award is available to a young African American female who is a member of St. James United Methodist Church and is a 2017 graduating senior. The Alan and Austin Campbell St. James Acolyte Scholarship - Applicants must be a graduating high school senior, have been an active member of any combination of St. James Ministries for 2 years; and have been an active acolyte member for at least 2 years during your membership at St. James United Methodist Church. Bessie L. Thompson Flemming Scholarship - This scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors who are seeking a degree in nursing. More information coming soon.
St. James United Methodist Church Membership Scholarship - The membership scholarship is open to any graduating high school senior of St. James United Methodist Church who is beginning a post-secondary education (university, college, certification, professional training) in the 2016-2017 academic year. COMMUNITY NEWS
A Raisin in the Sun. In pursuit of the American Dream, the Younger family, a dynamic African American family, wrestles with the push to assimilate into a white Chicago neighborhood and the pull of their cultural roots. This classic and timely play by Lorraine Hansberry was the first play by an African American woman to be produced on Broadway. A Raisin in the Sun went on to win the New York Drama Critics Circle's award for best play. The production features Brianna Woods, daughter of Danny and Bronna Woods, and is co-directed by Chip Miller, son of Skip and Melanie Miller. Chip had his first directorial experience during his teen years here at St. James when he assisted with the production of 'The Amen Corner' in 2005.
