Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, April 27, 2018 of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States
Greetings Resurrection Downtown!
I hope you are doing well and that your week has been full of God's presence. My excitement from last weekend has yet to wear off, not only because of our full worship attendance (we had over 300 adults at both morning services, and two very well-attended evening services), but because our services were complimented by our biggest April Serve Saturday to date, and a phenomenal Coffee With the Pastors gathering on Sunday. God is moving at Resurrection Downtown and it is thrilling to be a part of!
This weekend, continuing with our sermon series on What Would Jesus Say, we'll take a look at what Jesus would say specifically to The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection. What would his charge be for us as a community of faithful followers, hoping to reflect the image of God to the world around us? This will be an important message for us at Resurrection Downtown, helping us to focus on our purpose before we move into our new building June 2 and 3. This sermon will also correlate with the work we've engaged in over the past several months as one church in many locations, formulating our 2030 strategic vision. My hope is that we have another huge weekend in worship as we consider and shape our Christ-centered vision for the future.
In the meantime, we have lots of weekend activities happening, including our gatherings for RezMoms and RezDads tomorrow morning! Join the RezMoms tomorrow at 9 am for a meeting focused on self-care. Gather in the coffee shop for a relaxing yoga session, treats and discussion. You are invited and so are your friends! Email Sarah.Brischle@cor.org for childcare. Questions? Please contact Kristen Sayers at klynsayers@gmail.com.
The RezDads will meet at 1522 McGee at 9 am as well, to drop off kiddos, and then head to Messenger Coffee for a time of fellowship and discussion with other RezDads. Email Sarah.Brischle@cor.org to let her know if you need childcare, or reach out to Clay.Smith10@gmail.com with questions!
Also, on Sunday afternoon, we'll host another Matthew’s Ministry Family Day Out. Individuals of all ages with special needs and their siblings are invited to a fun-filled day of crafts, activities and fellowship while parents and caregivers take an afternoon for themselves, Sunday, April 29, from 1- 4 pmat 1522 McGee. Please register so that we may plan accordingly for snacks and volunteers. For questions, registration or to volunteer, contact Hannah.Murray@cor.org.
Finally, I want to formally congratulate our newest members at Resurrection Downtown. We had over 30 people take a big step of professing their faith by joining the church on April 22. I am so grateful for the ways that God will use you to transform the heart of the city to reflect the kingdom of heaven!
Congratulations to our new members: Ben Aken, Sam & Jessie Carey, Chris Constant, Tim DiCesare, Angel Echavarria, Jill Evans and Avery, John & Brittany Gamble, Steven Hennelly, Jerry Hood & Kim Henson, Kristen Jolly, Phil & Cookie Koesterer, Preston Lagemann, Melissa Lirley, Barbara Luhrs, Derron Pickett, Aaron & Sarah Schlagel and Wilder and Westin, Sarah Smith, Mason & Louisa Spangler, Angie Szczesny, Beth Troutt, and Daniel Wohlberg!
I hope you have a great Friday and I look forward to seeing you soon!
With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,
Scott
