Daily Scripture – Monday, 25 November 2013 – Devotion

“Out of the Depths”

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord (Psalm 130:1)

This seems an odd verse to pick for the week of Thanksgiving, but, consider this:  Thanksgiving is the time most families get together, but many families will be without a family member for the first time this year - Out of the depths. 

For some reason, we tend to get overly tired, a little frustrated, and that peculiar uncle or aunt or ? who always has a bad habit of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time arrives right on time!

Whatever might be going on for you this week, if you sometimes find yourself in the depths, remember that the Psalms are your guide:  Take it to God, be honest with God and yourself, wait (see verse 5 of this Psalm) and be patient, and then trust and hope. God is there!

Psalm 130: 5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,

    and in his word I hope;(NRSV)
