Reverend Adam Hamilton ~ Friday, 1 November 2013 ~ Dear Resurrection Family,

Reverend Adam Hamilton ~ Friday, 1 November 2013 ~ Dear Resurrection Family,
I believe yesterday and today the fall leaves in our area have hit their peak. Stop sometime today and enjoy them before they are gone. I've been taking pictures the last three days of their beauty and as I do I can't help but sing old hymns like For the Beauty of the Earth with its refrain, "Lord of all to thee we raise, this our hymn of grateful praise." Here are a couple of pictures I've taken. Click on them to see a larger version.
Don't forget, this weekend we "Fall Back" - set your clocks back by an hour on Saturday night.
This weekend we'll continue in our series of sermons, Messages from the Wilderness. We'll look at the story of Ruth and Naomi. Ruth lost her husband, and Naomi, Ruth's mother-in-law, lost both of her sons and her husband. We will focus on the wilderness of grief and loss. Every one of us will go through this wilderness. Naomi and Ruth helped one another through the wilderness. You can survive it too. This week we'll hear from Resurrection member Cheryl Miller whose son Matthew died in 1997, and how she survived the wilderness of loss. If you have a friend whose experienced loss, invite them to join us.
I want to thank all of you who have returned your 2014 commitment. We've received 42.5% of our commitment cards so far - that's behind a hair from last year's 43.9% on the second week of our commitment period. If you've yet to return your 2014 commitment, it would be awesome if you could do this online today, or this weekend in worship. You can click on this link to return your card today. The average commitment varies at each campus - Leawood's average is $3,978. This is so important for our planning for next year's ministry. If you are able to increase your giving for next year, that is a blessing. Ultimately we hope that every member returns their commitment card each year. This next week we'll be sending reminder notes out for those we've not heard from. If you are able to fill out your card online or in worship this weekend it will save our volunteers and staff time, and the church postage. Again, thank you to all who've turned in your cards.
Last weekend 126 adults and children joined the church (89 adults and 37 children) across Leawood, Downtown and Blue Springs campuses. Resurrection West's Coffee with the Pastors is next month. Welcome to all of our new members. We're so grateful and proud that you have made this your church family. At the bottom of this enote is a list of our new members. Take a look at the list and see if you know any of our new members - you might have a friend or co-worker who just joined the church! Resurrection West's coffee with the pastor will be December 8th from 2:30-4:30pm. For more information go to rezwest.org.
I'm spending the next couple of days working on the sermons for December, January and February. We've got so many exciting things happening in the months ahead!
Enjoy the fall leaves today, and as you do think of the one whose glory they reflect!
Adam Hamilton
