Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Monday, 6 October 2014 "John's Gospel"

Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Monday, 6 October 2014 "John's Gospel"
In John's Gospel we encounter several of the great "I am's" of Jesus, where Jesus says, "I am..." and in so doing reveals greater and greater aspects of Himself.  We'll be looking at each of those in the next several days, beginning with this first one:
Then Jesus declared (to the woman at the well), "I who speak to you am he (The Messiah )."  (John 4:26 ).
In this first "I am" Jesus makes the claim that he is the messiah; what does he mean?  He is the one the Jews, and all humanity have been waiting on, God's anointed (that's what the Hebrew word means) one; the one God has anointed to bring deliverance - first to the Jew, and then to all humanity.  His "work" is like providing water, living water, water that will both quench our thirst and also become within us a spring of water welling up to eternal life (v.14).
Then Jesus declared (to the woman at the well), "I who speak to you am he (The MessiahJesus is indeed God's anointed one, the one God sent to save us,
restore us, give us life, and life abundantly; the One who came for all, and for you - and for me.  I receive YOU, Messiah, Jesus. Amen.
