Psalm 46:(0) For the leader. By the descendants of Korach. On ‘alamot [high-pitched musical instruments?]. A song:
2 (1) God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
3 (2) Therefore we are unafraid,
even if the earth gives way,
even if the mountains tumble
into the depths of the sea,
4 (3) even if its waters rage and foam,
and mountains shake at its turbulence. (Selah)
5 (4) There is a river whose streams
gladden the city of God,
the holy habitation of ‘Elyon —
6 (5) God is in the city.
It will not be moved —
when daybreak comes, God will help it.
7 (6) Nations were in turmoil,
kingdoms were moved;
his voice thundered forth,
and the earth melted away.
8 (7) Adonai-Tzva’ot is with us,
our fortress, the God of Ya‘akov. (Selah)
9 (8) Come and see the works of Adonai,
the astounding deeds he has done on the earth.
10 (9) To the ends of the earth he makes wars cease —
he breaks the bow, snaps the spear,
burns the shields in the fire.
11 (10) “Desist, and learn that I am God,
supreme over the nations,
supreme over the earth.”
"No Need For Fear" by Author: Tabita Rothmann Gonzalez
Have you ever experienced the type of fear that does not allow you to move forward? Or, fear that makes it hard to even think properly because all you see is the negative outcome you wished to avoid in the first place? Fear debilitates and distracts us in our search for any other reality than the object feared. Reality or not, whatever we fear fades our hope for a positive outcome.
No matter what type of fear we may experience Psalm 46 affirms: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea” (Psalm 46:1-2). It is good to remember that whenever we are not strong enough to overcome our problems, God has the strength we need to move forward and cast all our fear.
Yes, we will face trouble, but when we do God is our faithful present help. He strengthens us to overcome fear and experience fullness of life. Those who seek refuge in Him will have the confidence that they are protected by a mighty fortress.
Hymn for Today: "A Mighty Fortress" by Martin Luther; translated by Frederick H. Hedge
1. A mighty fortress is our God,
a bulwark never failing;
our helper he amid the flood
of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
doth seek to work us woe;
his craft and power are great,
and armed with cruel hate,
on earth is not his equal.
2. Did we in our own strength confide,
our striving would be losing,
were not the right man on our side,
the man of God's own choosing.
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is he;
Lord Sabaoth, his name,
from age to age the same,
and he must win the battle.
3. And though this world, with devils filled,
should threaten to undo us,
we will not fear, for God hath willed
his truth to triumph through us.
The Prince of Darkness grim,
we tremble not for him;
his rage we can endure,
for lo, his doom is sure;
one little word shall fell him.
4. That word above all earthly powers,
no thanks to them, abideth;
the Spirit and the gifts are ours,
thru him who with us sideth.
Let goods and kindred go,
this mortal life also;
the body they may kill;
God's truth abideth still;
his kingdom is forever.
Thought for Today:
"It is not our strength that enables us to face trials and pain gracefully; it is the indwelling power and strength of Jesus' Spirit within us"[Daniel Powers].
Please pray:
That many people in Sao Tome and Princepe will come to know Yeshua he Messiah and receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
