Psalm 26:(0) By David:
(1) Vindicate me, Adonai,
for I have lived a blameless life;
unwaveringly I trust in Adonai.
2 Examine me, Adonai, test me,
search my mind and heart.
3 For your grace is there before my eyes,
and I live my life by your truth.
4 I have not sat with worthless folks,
I won’t consort with hypocrites,
5 I hate the company of evildoers,
I will not sit with the wicked.
6 I will wash my hands in innocence
and walk around your altar, Adonai,
7 lifting my voice in thanks
and proclaiming all your wonders.
8 Adonai, I love the house where you live,
the place where your glory abides.
9 Don’t include me with sinners
or my life with the bloodthirsty.
10 In their hands are evil schemes;
their right hands are full of bribes.
11 As for me, I will live a blameless life.
Redeem me and show me favor.
12 My feet are planted on level ground;
in the assemblies I will bless Adonai.
"Do I Measure Up?" by Author: Stephen MayesIn the minds of many athletes there is one question never far from the surface: Do I measure up? Looking around at competitors who are bigger, stronger, or faster this question will arise. The athlete’s answer will affect his or her future. If yes, they may rise to great accomplishments; if no, they may need to make adjustments. Neither can happen if the question isn’t asked.
King David asked God, “Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind” (Psalm 26:2). He wanted to know if he measured up to what God expected of him. David’s courage and humility afforded a valuable opportunity to know where he stood with God. It also helped David understand what the next steps in his life should be. If all is well, he could continue on confidently; if something has gone awry, he could correct his course.
From time to time we all need to correct our course. However, if those vulnerable moments of examination aren't a part of our life, we may never understand what correction is needed. We can choose to be vulnerable today, stand before our heavenly Father and say “Test me.” He will, and we need to know.
Hymn for Today: "A Closer Walk with Thee" by Haldor Lillenas, copyright 1924, Renewed 1952 by Lillenas Publishing Company. All rights reserved.
1. Lord, I am pleading; hear Thou my prayer.
Let me Thy blessed fellowship share.
From day to day Thy servant I’d be.
Grant me a closer walk with Thee.
Refrain:
O for a closer walk with Thee!
Near to Thy side I ever would be.
Shield me and hide me;
Constantly guide me
Into a closer walk with Thee.
Thought for Today:
"Let us examine and test our ways
and return to Adonai." [Lamentations 3:40].
