Dear Resurrection Family,
I can’t wait to be back in worship this weekend as we kick off Fall at Resurrection. Our children will move up a grade, our choirs will be back from vacations and I will begin a new series: Searching for Truth, What Christians Believe and Why. In this series, we’ll look at the questions we’ve all asked and consider Christianity’s answers to these questions and why we believe these things.
This week’s question is “Is There a God?” We’ll spend a little time talking about atheism, then look at the case for the existence of God, what Christians mean by “God” and the implications the existence of God, if it is accepted, has on how we approach life. While committed atheists will not be persuaded, I believe this message will speak to people searching for truth, questioning, wondering and willing to consider that there might be a God.
I want to encourage you to invite at least one person to church this weekend. I’ve sent our members a letter and a small card to use to invite a friend who you think would be open to this message. I also want to ask you to view the sermon series video promo (it’s only 1 minute) and then post the link on your Facebook page, send it to your Twitter followers or e-mail it to your friends, inviting them to join you in worship. Here’s the video promo link.
This is going to be a great fall as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of our church. We have several ways for you to participate as we prepare for the celebration:
We are giving back 25,000 hours in service in the 25 days leading up to celebration weekend, October 10 and 11. Check out the website for more details: www.cor.org/giveback25.
Share your Resurrection story in the video booth in the Leawood Narthex. Just step into the booth and follow the directions to record a short video sharing how Resurrection has changed and impacted your life. The video booth will be traveling to each of our campuses over the next month.
25th Anniversary t-shirts are available for pre-order starting this weekend for $5 each (men's/women's/children’s sizes). Stop by the tables after worship to place your order or order online atthewell.cor.org/shirts
On Thursday, August 20, we will kick off our fall lineup of Care Night classes and groups on the Leawood campus. Dinner is at 5:30 pm in the Student Center, followed by Kelly Sisney’s sharing of her story – “What’s So Funny About Faith: Allowing Humor to Heal.” You can learn more about the classes offered and register for dinner on the website: www.cor.org/carenight
Grow Night begins Resurrection Leawood September 8. EachTuesday evening we’ll have a community dinner in the Narthex from5:30-7 pm and then you can choose from a variety of classes and groups to attend from 7-8:30. This is going to be a great opportunity for fellowship and spiritual growth. We do need some people to help at Grow Night with dinner hospitality, greeting, and answering questions. If you and/or your small group would be willing to help, please contactJane Fowler.
Here’s a heads up for those of you driving to the Leawood Campus. The City of Leawood has announced it will close the intersection at 143rd and Roe for the next 4.5 months beginning Monday, August 17. What this means is you will not be able to go south to 143rd St. on Roe, and you can’t go east or west on 143rd at Roe.
I wanted to share this note I received earlier this week from the acting Superintendent of Blue Valley Schools, Resurrection member Al Hanna,
  • Dear Adam, We had our all-staff convocation today in the sanctuary and we are so appreciative of being able use the facility. Your staff just bends over backwards to make us feel welcome. We had 3,000+ staff members present today – it was like a Christmas Eve service! Thanks to Resurrection for allowing us the use of the sanctuary the last ten years. We cannot thank you and your staff enough.
These are the kinds of things we host in our buildings, along with graduations and community gatherings and a host of other meetings you may not even know happen here. I’m excited for our new sanctuary to open, along with the conversion of our current sanctuary into 26 classrooms, fellowship hall, food service areas and more, and for the ways these buildings will be put to use to serve the community.
I’ll see you in worship this weekend!
