Sunday's Sermon. This Sunday's sermon is "It All Begins With Love" from John 3:16. Join us at 8:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. at the Paseo Campus or 10:00 a.m. at the Renaissance Campus.
John 3:
16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only and unique Son, so that everyone who trusts in him may have eternal life, instead of being utterly destroyed. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but rather so that through him, the world might be saved.
"Ole Time Religion" Sunday. February 28 - Worshipers are invited to wear attire reminiscent of our history during the early - late 1900's in celebration of the journey of African Americans.
"Reaffirmation" Sunday. March 13th, during the 8, 10 & 11 a.m. worship services
Kidz Connect. Children ages 5-10 are invited to worship together every 4th Sunday at 8:00 a.m. worship and every Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Check-in and registration begin 15 minutes before worship. You can also register your child(ren) at www.stjamesumc.com. Early registration allows us plan properly for snacks, supplies and volunteers. Kidz Connect incorporate praise & worship, offering, communion, arts & crafts and science activities.

Revival. Beginning February 24th, don't miss the "Celebrating Divine Design" Lenten Revival during Wednesday Night Live at 7:00 p.m. Guest Pastors include Rev. Willis Johnson, Rev. Antonio Settles, Rev. Faith Allen and Dr. Barry Settle.
Holy Week. We'll begin our Holy Week observance March 23rd at 7:00 p.m. during Wednesday Night Live with a service of healing, testimony and special music. Maundy Thursday, March 24th, will feature a re-enactment of the Last Supper. A Prayer Vigil will be held Good Friday, March 25th from 6a-6p in the Vaughan Chapel. Join us at 7:00 p.m. for the Seven Last Words of Christ.

Lenten Bible Study. Overcoming Obstacles, a five week study, beginsTuesday, February 16th. We will examine some of the challenges that hinder believers from living a faithful life. The good news is that believers have always had obstacles and the faithful continue to grow. We will look at several passages of scripture that provide some insight on how to press on in the midst of opposition to our faith. Led by the Pastoral Team, this study will be held in the sanctuary of the Renaissance Campus. Fellowship and refreshments - 6:00 p.m.; Study - 7:00 p.m.
Chatterbox Study. Using the book Crash the Chatterbox: Hearing God's Voice Above All Others by Pastor Steven Furtick, Danny & Bronna Woods will lead this study at the Renaissance Campus Monday evenings from6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. beginning February 29th. This six week study focuses on four key areas of negative thoughts: insecurity, fear, condemnation and discouragement. Get a copy of the participant guide wherever books are sold. Panel Discussion. The United Methodist Men and Women join together to promote awareness Sunday, February 14th, from 9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. in the Ministry Mall. Representatives of Hope House, SAFEHOUSE, New House and Giving Hope & Help will participate in a panel discussion on violence against women and teen dating violence. All are invited to attend.

Get well or encouragement cards. As we continue to lift up those on our prayer list, please bring a get well or encouragement card on the firstSunday of each month. Please sign your name and feel free to add some encouraging words. Write their first & last name on the envelope (no stamp needed) and drop it in the "mailbox" in the Narthex. February is Heart Month. Please join the Health Ministry in recognizing American Heart Association national wear RED day. It's also Valentine's Day, so get your red on, Sunday, February 14th. There will be updated heart healthy information and recipes available at the health ministry table in the Narthex.

Next Generation Ministries is launching "Operation Serve"
Children & Youth are encouraged to serve in worship on each secondSunday. You can choose 1 of 4 ways to serve, as an usher, a greeter, singing in the choirs, or working with the audio visual ministry. How do you choose to serve on 2nd Sunday?

Little Vessel Board. Training for Little Vessels will take place each month on the Saturday before the second Sunday. Join us this Saturday, February 13th at 10:00 a.m. in the rear of the sanctuary for a short training session.

Father/Daughter Dance. Join us Saturday, March 12th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Ministry Mall. Tickets are $30 and cover one father and up to five daughters. Tickets can be purchased during HeBrews, in the Men's Sunday School class or from any UMM Officer. Contact Mike Hobson at 913-461-1100 for more information.
Instrumental music classes. Classes begin soon. If you are interested in placing your child in a music class, contact the instructor, Darryl Chamberlain at 816-606-9542 or contact Tyrone Yarbrough at the church. Beginning and advanced classes will be available. Students do not have to have any prior music training.
Girl Scout Cookies. Girl Scout Troop 3335 is selling Cookies! Please support SJUMC's Girl Scout ministry by purchasing Girl Scout Cookies. We will have a booth set up after the 8 am and 11 am worship service. Cookies are only $4/box with eight tasty varieties available. Bonus: Give back by purchasing a box of cookies to be donated to our local USO service men and women. Thank you!

Saturday, Feb. 20th at 1 p.m., the Black Archives (1722 E. 17th Street) will host "Under Siege: The Burning of Black Churches". This is a Grtr KC Black History Study Group event. The panelist will explore issues raised from recent hate crimes involving the burning of Black churches across the U.S. Discussions will be led by Dr. Cecilia Robinson with special remarks from Thomas Randolph (Mgr/KCMO Civil Rights Division).
