"Pastor Penny Ellwood's eNote" The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs from Blue Springs, Missouri, United States for Friday, 29 April 2016

Friday, April 29, 2016
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
I'm looking forward to being back in worship with you all this Sunday after being out the past two Sundays. I don't know about you but I feel out of kilter all week when I miss worshiping with my church family on Sunday. I am so grateful though to our staff and the volunteers who are able to fill our shoes when we're gone. I heard about Nathan's comment last week that the Sunday leadership team "felt like they were having a party while Mom and Dad were away" with Mike, our worship leader and myself both out. The leadership team was all filled with our awesome volunteers. This is a great reminder that we're all part of God's holy priesthood. It was Peter who said, "...You also, as living stones, are being built into a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." (1 Pet. 2:5). As Christians we are meant to be ministers to one another and to offer ourselves as spiritual sacrifices to and for God.
I am regularly inspired by all the ways I see you accepting this role of priest in the ways you serve one another and our community. From the weekly team filling backpacks, to the group of tutors who take off every Tuesday morning to serve at one of our partner schools downtown, to the chair arrangers and Easter bulb planters that work to provide a welcoming experience to those attending worship or classes, and especially to those who have spent hours making all the plans and preparations which enable the rest of us to gather and serve together. You'll notice that we have a full month of service opportunities listed below with the blood drive and work at Wendell Phillips. Every week I see signs that this "spiritual house" we are building in Blue Springs is growing larger.
Men, I want to remind you that tomorrow is the Men's Breakfast at 8 am in Fellowship Hall. The discussion will include talk about the importance of mentoring and there will be information about the upcoming Men's Retreat at Camp Timberlake. We encourage you to invite a friend or neighbor to join us for breakfast. This weekend we are continuing our sermon series, Second Chances by focusing our attention on people in the Bible who got it all wrong when it came to money and power, and how we can get it right! We hope you'll invite someone to worship this weekend at Resurrection. We'll also be offering a Pizza with the Pastor after our 10:45 am service for those who are considering joining Resurrection or would just like to know more about our church. After the informational meeting, we'll have a joining service for those ready for the next step into membership.
One last thing, next Sunday, May 8th, is Mother’s Day. We will be celebrating our mothers and the amazing impact they have had on our lives through each worship service at every campus and we need your help. Share your favorite "Mom" photos with us. Shots with your mother, grandmother, and/or pics of you with your own children. They will be shown at your home campus and worship service on that day as we offer praise and thanks to God for these incredible women. Please send a JPG of your favorite photo to mothersday@cor.org and be sure to note that you are from the Blue Springs campus along with what service you normally attend (9am or10:45am). It will be a special day of worship for sure!
