Resurrection West,
It’s good to be back with you after a few days on personal retreat. Each year our staff-parish committee encourages our staff to take personal retreat days to renew and be refreshed in our relationship with God. My connection with God was strengthened as I took time in the mountains of North Carolina. My wife’s family has a cabin there and it was a great time of renewing as I explored hiking trails, did some fly-fishing, and spent time in prayer and study.
I am preparing for a new series I’ll be preaching following our current sermon series called “Adventure”. My hope is to greater understand what Jesus meant when he spoke of the abundant life. What is the abundant life? Is it achievement? possession? experience? relationships? adventure? I’m looking forward to exploring these ideas May 29th - June 12th here at West! Thank you for being a church who cares for its staff and offers not only personal retreat days, but also mission days to serve others. I hope some of you are considering joining me in in serving on our domestic family mission to Omaha this summer or the adult mission to Malawi next January!
Pastor Adam will be preaching a sermon this weekend about men who are driven, yet sometimes missed the mark - the rich young ruler, Joseph of Arimethea, Nicodemus, and Paul! I’m excited to hear and be inspired to grow in this Sunday’s message as we learn about the second chances they all received. Invite a friend and join us in worship this Sunday!

  • Resurrection West Sports Camp and Vacation Bible Camp, “Meet the Royals”! Two great opportunities for kids this summer, one amazing week of fun! Registration is now open for RezWest Sports Camp and RezWest VBC. Both camps will take place June 20-24; Sports camp (Basketball, Soccer, Flag Football & Cheerleading) will be held in the morning, followed by VBC “Meet the Royals” in the afternoon. Register for one or both of these events. A supervised “sack lunch” time will be held for those who participate in both activities. We hope to help hundreds of kids grow in faith, wisdom and friendship through these programs, so we will need many volunteers - youth and adults! All parents who volunteer for VBC and have children younger than kindergarten will be able to register their little ones in early childhood VBC or nursery.   • Catch the Wave of Fun! Join KiDSCOR Team Summer! Be a part of helping kids search out their faith this summer! No experience necessary – just be ready to have some fun with the kids. We are looking for parents, youth and other adults who would be willing to serve two Sundays in KiDSCOR or at one of our awesome summer camps. Stop by the Team Summer tables in the lower level hallway to sign up – and take home your piece of summer! Contact Christie.Walker@cor.org for more information. 
  • MEGA MISSION – SPRING 2016! Saturday, May 7. Meet at 8:45am at Resurrection West for a brief time of breakfast snacks, coffee, instructions and prayer. Then, serve in one of our five local opportunities, including:
  1. Packaging diapers at Happy Bottoms
  2. Sorting used LEGOS for children in-need through The Giving Brick at the RezWest Mission Center
  3. Sorting and organizing donations at Mission Southside or Turnstyles Thrift Store
  4. Serving at Rose Brooks Center, which provides emergency shelter for women and children.
  • All ages are welcome and all are invited to wear a MEGA MISSION t-shirt - extras will be available. Due to the specific number of volunteers needed at each location, sign-ups are required. There are 185 available spots, so register early at cor.org/west/megamission.
  • Used LEGO Drive - If you would like to donate used LEGOs of any size for The Giving Brick MEGA MISSION project, please place those in the RezWest Mission Bins by the stairwell by Thursday, May 5. 
  • 5th - 7th Grade Summer Mission Trip, July 11-15 - Join us for a week of serving others, growing closer to Christ and having a lot of fun! We are heading to Lawrence to serve through non-profits, including homeless ministries, housing projects, food/shelter non-profits and much more. Register by June 1st to guarantee your spot.   • 8th-12th Grade Summer Mission Trip, June 12-18 (Current Grades 8-12) Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Opportunities for youth to serve through homeless ministries, housing projects and food and shelter non-profits. Go to cor.org/west/students and click on the Events, Retreats & Missions tab for more info and to register. 
  • Family mission trip to Omaha, Nebraska, July 21-23. This will be a great way to instill the value of service to God and others into your kid’s lives. Join Pastor Jason, Christie Walker - Director of Children’s Ministries, and their families to serve. Registration will open for this mission experience for parents and kids K-5th grade next week. Save the dates and join us in service. We will cap off the mission experience with a day at the Omaha zoo! Contact Christie.Walker@cor.org for more information. Register now atcor.org/domestictrips.   • The Clothing Ministry is in great need of drivers to deliver donations to our ministry partners, including Grace United Methodist Church, Salvation Army and Village UMC. If you would like to volunteer as a driver and are able to make deliveries twice a month, please contact Rich Trump at rstrump@att.net. 
  • Save the Date! Guys, you won’t want to miss this... Saturday Morning Men’s Group presents Dayton Moore, General Manager of the World Champion Kansas City Royals at RezWest on Saturday, June 11from 8-9:30am. More details coming soon! 
  • United Methodist Women’s RezWest Circle - May 4, Lower Level Classroom. Join the group for an informative presentation from Margee Castle, as she shares her experiences from various mission trips. A time of fellowship will start at 12:30pm, followed by the presentation. 
Finally, Mother’s Day is coming up on Sunday, May 8th. We will be celebrating our mothers and the amazing impact they have had on our lives through each worship service at every campus and we need your help. We hope you will send in your favorite pic with your mother, grandmother, and/or pics of you with your own children. We nee them submitted by May 1st! They will be shown at your home campus and worship service on that day as we offer praise and thanks to God for these incredible women. Please send your pic by May 1st to mothersday@cor.org and be sure to note that you are from the RezWest campus along with what service you normally attend (9am, 10:45am, or 5pm).
