The One Heart Many Hands initiative that will be taking place simultaneously will preclude you from participation in the General NMI Convention.
If you plan to participate in One Heart Many Hands, please allow an alternate to serve in your place. You can find the forms for alternate delegates by clicking here. And submit this form to the delegate coordinator.

"5 Questions to Ask Before You Quit"
Every leader has been there, that secret place of pain and frustration that has you asking, "Why on earth am I doing this?"
It might be triggered by a bad interaction with a client, coworker, or parishioner, or it could hit you as a perfect storm of stress, fatigue, and conflict. Either way, there's bound to come a day when you'd rather do anything else than what you're doing.
Making the decision to leave a leadership post amid conflict or during a low season could turn out to be a choice you regret. To be sure that you make your transitions for positive reasons, not negative ones, ask yourself these five questions every time you think you want to quit.
1. Am I reacting to a moment, or is this a long-term conviction?
Everyone has down days or even longer periods. But low moods, like the conflict, fatigue, or busyness that produces them, usually pass. Don't make a permanent decision based on a temporary feeling. When the time is right to move on, you will likely have felt that for some time.
2. Am I being driven to escape or achieve?
Some leaders develop the habit of dealing with problems by leaving them for something else. When things are difficult, you may have a strong flight reflex. You just want to get away. If your environment is truly toxic, that might be necessary. Generally, however, it's best to make career decisions based on opportunity. If you're drawn to a new challenge or prospect for achievement, your feeling may be worth paying attention to. Otherwise, wait awhile.
3. What's the best choice I can make for others?
It might surprise you that even Jesus wanted to quit at one point. In the garden of Gethsemane, he prayed that he might be released from his mission. But he concluded the prayer with these words, "Not my will, but yours be done" (Luke 22:42).
4. Five years from now, will I be glad I made this choice?
Hat tip to Andy Stanley for this great leadership question. Give yourself the gift of perspective by taking the long view. Don't think so much about the next five days. Look at the effect of this decision over the next five years.
5. Am I quitting or leaving?
Quitting is often motivated by fear, self-pity, or a lack of imagination. It's almost never the right move. Leaving is a deliberate, thoughtful choice to end one season in order to begin another. Leave if you feel the need, but don't quit.[Stan Toler]

BLOG, PHILIPPINE-MICRONESIA, URGENT PRAYER REQUESTSTEAM MEMBER FROM THE PHILIPPINES SENDS PRAISES, REQUESTS PRAYER
Philippines: Team member in the Philippines Dee Sudnick, is very grateful for the blessings God is pouring out in her ministry. She praises God for the donation of funds pledged for the school at the Ormoc Church of the Nazarene. She also thanks the Lord for a good beginning to the school year at Faith Academy Middle School; she currently teaches there.
Dee appreciates all your prayers! Please continue to pray for her, specifically for the following:
- For the 32 new students attending Faith Academy Middle School this year. There are a lot of changes for students at middle school age and flying to a different country to attend a boarding school is an even larger adjustment.
- For Dee, as she is in the throes of teaching science, serving on committees, coaching volleyball, coordinating testing, juggling life and work and other ministry. May she be able to establish a good balance for how she could live her life as a reflection of Christ in the Philippines.
- For this year’s teachers at Faith Academy. A few openings remain for teachers and they trust and pray that God will bring the right people to minister in these positions.

- Reconnection with several key prayer warrior partners while on home assignment.
- Provision of a wheelchair- accessible van for her parents.
- Answered prayer for her back pain- she once shared the need in a prayer meeting, and a chiropractor attending the prayer meeting followed up with a free treatment that same evening, and by the next morning she felt better.
- Growth in prayer and discipleship across churches and districts in Southeast Asia.
- God is truly good with how he is working in Lisa’s life and the people around her. Please continue to pray for her while she is on home assignment,
- That she will not re-injure her back while lifting luggage.
- Pray for the timely processing of her visa in time for her return to Thailand in October.
- Let’s also join her in prayer for the ministry in Southeast Asia, specifically for more laborers to join the team in the field and for the completion of two book printings.

URGENT PRAYER REQUESTSPRAYER REQUESTED FOR MISSIONARY’S MOTHER
Please pray for the mother of A—, a teacher in a Creative Access Area. A—’s mother went into the hospital last week to have a procedure done and was admitted due to a low oxygen level. She was then moved to ICU and although there has been some improvement, the pulmonary doctor says the fluid in her lungs is likely from poor kidney function or congestive heart failure. The family is awaiting a diagnosis. A— was to have returned later this month to the CAA where she serves, but that is now in question due to her mother’s condition.

FEATURE, URGENT PRAYER REQUESTS*** UPDATE- PRAYER REQUESTED FOR TEAM MEMBER IN MYANMAR
Southeast Asia: Samuel Yangmi, team member in Southeast Asia is requesting prayer. Please see the following request:
As many of you have been praying for me concerning my left eye hemorrhage, it seems that it is going to require a vitrectomy. I’m going in tomorrow (Tuesday 08/16/2016 PHT) to have a final check up and Wednesday or Thursday schedule the surgery.
Continue to pray for the doctor Nimit Ittipunkul MD will be doing the surgery. Will keep you posted as we now leave it to the Lord and the hands of the doctors.
It has been a good 4 months that I wake up hoping to see better but a 2nd and 3rd hemorrhage has indicated to the doctors, they should go in and repair it less the retina becomes detached.
In His hands,
Sam
*** Update as of 17- August:
We received an update from Sam and Lumae last night and we are very happy to share a miracle unfolding!
After numerous tests, Dr. Nimit found that there is no detachment and damage to Sam’s retina. Somehow the doctor has seen a great improvement on the condition of Sam’s eyes, that vitrectomy might already be too evasive of an approach. Instead, new medications are recommended for injection to clear the hemorrhage. Dr. Nimit will be discussing with another doctor on lesser evasive solutions to the problem.
Sam is very thankful for your prayers, and amazingly, he feels his vision is improving because of them!
Let us continue to pray for Sam and Lumae. Sam is scheduled for another appointment with the doctors on the 25th to deliberate on the doctors’ plan of action. Please pray for Sam’s doctors as well, that God will show them what needs to be done to bring comfort and healing to Sam.[Download *** Update- Prayer Requested for Team Member in Myanmar as PDF]

New Zealand: It was a normal lunchtime in the city of Christchurch New Zealand on February 22, 2011. Suddenly a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck. The devastation to the city centre was huge and 183 people died. Many people left the city. Many houses, factories and commercial buildings have had to be rebuilt.
Image from bbc.co.ukFive years have passed and the city is still recovering and rebuilding. The Church of the Nazarene in Avonside was damaged but the congregation was able to continue meeting in the church hall. Now the sanctuary is being strengthened and will soon be reopened to the public. It is the only Nazarene church in the beautiful scenic South Island of New Zealand.
Are there Nazarenes who would like to come and work in Christchurch and at the same time help in restarting the church? We have a small congregation but we need help. Would you like to give 2 – 5 years living and working in New Zealand and at the same time help to develop youth and children’s ministry? We need musicians, worship leaders, intercessors, small group leaders and the like.
Get the chance to earn a living and experience a new life in New Zealand, doing all of these while serving God and his people! For more information and a list of opportunities, click here.
Please pray for Christchurch as they continue to rebuild their city. Pray for our fellow Nazarenes as they display resilience, hope and faith in the Lord during this time.[Submitted by: Neville Bartle]

The mission of the Church of the Nazarene is to make Christlike disciples among the nations.
But how do you actually do it?
Drawing from John Wesley's disciple making strategy, this video and accompanying resources are intended to inspire and equip the church to implement a Wesleyan vision for making Christlike disciples that is both relevant and practical for today.
Read about how Grant Zweigle, the discipleship coordinator on the Asia-Pacific Region, developed this resource and why.

DISCIPLESHIP, FEATURE, NEWS, REGIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS, RESOURCES, SDMIDISCIPLESHIP IN TODAY’S CONTEXT: MAKING CHRISTLIKE DISCIPLES THE NAZARENE WAY!
SDMI: The mission of the Church of the Nazarene is to make Christlike disciples among the nations.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”- Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
But how do you actually do it?
Asia-Pacific Discipleship Coordinator Grant Zweigle addresses this question. In this video entitled, “We Make Disciples,” he shares on the mission of making Christlike disciples in the context of our time, place, generation and culture.Drawing from John Wesley’s disciple making strategy, this video and accompanying resources are intended to inspire and equip the church to implement a Wesleyan vision for making Christlike disciples that is both relevant and practical for today.
As discipleship coordinator on the Asia-Pacific Region, Grant Zweigle developed this resource to encourage the churches on his region to find contextually appropriate ways to connect the people in their churches and communities with one another, in order to build each other up in love, until all reach maturity in the faith, are renewed in the image of God, and empowered by the Spirit to joyfully participate in the mission of God for the life of the world.
Watch and learn how God works through “Means of Grace.”

Teaching Assignment Awaits In Papua New Guinea - Is God Calling You?
Melanesia South Pacific Field
The MK (missionary kid) school at Kudjip Nazarene Hospital mission station is in need of two teachers, one for grades 1 thru 7 and another for 8 thru 12. These positions are one-on-one teaching of approximately 4-7 students per year. These students are the children of the missionaries stationed at Kudjip Hospital or the Melanesia South Pacific Field Office.
By filling the role of a teacher of missionary children, other parents in full-time mission positions can know that their children's educational needs are being met. This is a great opportunity to serve by mentoring, teaching and loving the children of our missionaries.
Are you feeling a call to go outside of your comfort zone in service to our Lord? When we place what we have in God's hands, it is amazing what He can do.

A deluge of unusually heavy rains late last week caused unprecedented flooding in southern Louisiana and parts of Mississippi. At least 13 people died in the record-level floods, which also forced tens of thousands of people from their homes. Thousands of families are in shelters and cannot return home.
Entire neighborhoods have been swamped since approximately 25 inches of rain fell over the course of just a few days.
More than 20,000 people had to be rescued from flood waters by the Coast Guard. Victor and Teese Boyd, who pastor the Baker, Louisiana, Church of the Nazarene, were among those rescued with only what they could carry.
The Boyds “lost everything—vehicles, contents, and parsonage,” said Chuck Fountain, Louisiana district superintendent.
According to Fountain, several Nazarene churches were also affected by the flooding, and several church members were displaced after their homes flooded.
"Our hearts are heavy with the loss of life, property, and livelihoods as a result of the horrendous floods in Louisiana,” said Bob Broadbooks, director of the Church of the Nazarene’s USA/Canada Region. “Compassionate Nazarenes are already mobilizing resources to help. Thank you for your prayers and support."

Manzini, Swaziland
Dr Samuel Hynd (left) with business mogul Natie Kirsh in an undated picture. (Swazi Observer photo)
Dr Samuel Hynd, a longtime Scottish missionary to Swaziland, passed away August 18 at the age of 91.
Hynd was born on 19 December 1924 in the home of his grandfather, George Sharpe, the founder of the Church of the Nazarene in the British Isles. At the age of six months, he travelled with his parents, Dr and Mrs David Hynd, to Swaziland, where his parents founded the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital and the Manzini Mission Station. The later founding of schools and colleges made this the largest mission station of the Church of the Nazarene.
Samuel Hynd returned to Glasgow for his medical studies, serving as district president of the Nazarene Young Peoples' Society (now Nazarene Youth International) and being one of the initiators of the annual conference-holidays known as "Institute." He graduated in 1950 and was appointed a Nazarene missionary to Manzini, succeeding his father as head of the station in 1961.
After the independence of Swaziland, Hynd served as minister of health in the government of King Sobhuza II and was later the doctor in charge at the birth of the prince who became the present king of Swaziland, Mswati III.
Over the decade following his 80th birthday, Hynd raised funds and established a new clinic to combat the AIDS epidemic.
Hynd was made a commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by the Queen in 1998.
His last visit to Glasgow was to open the new Parkhead Church of the Nazarene.

Nashville, Tennessee
Prayer is requested for Michigan District Superintendent John Seaman, who was hospitalized this week in Tennessee while visiting family.
A member of the Church of the Nazarene’s General Board and a former missionary, Seaman continues to undergo tests to determine appropriate treatment.
The following statement was released Thursday by the Seaman family:
Wonderfully encouraging news today and answers to your faithful prayers! John is breathing on his own, and he is off the ventilator! He is responsive, communicating, AND funny! Yesterday, we were not at all sure that would happen, and we are praising the Lord! John has been through so much, and he really needs to rest. At this point he only knows that he has had some seizures, that they seem to be under control, and that he is doing well, for which we are praising God.
Our son, Lauren, and daughter, Ketly, and their spouses and children are all here. Kendra and Chuck arrive this afternoon. We are asking for special prayer for Kendra. She is very vulnerable to seizures herself these days, and this crisis with her dad has been very difficult for her, so please pray the Lord will protect her during this stressful time.
We will be needing to make some critical decisions in the next couple of days as to further treatment. We are deeply grateful for your prayers and can testify to God's very specific answers! We are confident in the truth of one of our family's life verses: Proverbs 3:5-6[Proverbs 3:5 Trust in Adonai with all your heart;
do not rely on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him;
then he will level your paths.
]! Keep praying for a miracle knowing that above all, we want what God wants!More information will be posted as it is released. Read more

Gweru, Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe pastor opens extension center, trains next generation of pastors
In 2002, Noah Sibanda graduated from Africa Nazarene University in Nairobi, Kenya, with a master's degree in religion. In August of that same year, Sibanda returned to his home country of Zimbabwe, where Zimbabwe West District Superintendent A. Nyoni asked him to take over a small church in the city of Gweru, the third largest city in Zimbabwe.
Although the city is large, there was only one church in the entire city. Sibanda knew that the first work he had to do was win souls for Christ and then train them so he could have a team of soul-winners.
Phase two of Sinbanda's vision was to start an extension centre for theological studies. His first class had 12 students, all of them from his church. In 2012, after four years of class, 12 students from Mkoba Church of the Nazarene graduated with a diploma in theology from Nazarene Theological College–Central Africa.
"It was a joy on the 17th of July 2016 to witness six church plants being organised by the Zimbabwe West District Superintendent Rev. A. Nyoni," Sibanda said. "The churches organized were Woodlands, Game Park, Riverdale, Mkoba North, Ascot, and Quarry Churches of the Nazarene."
The third phase of the vision was to plant new churches. The team in the Gweru Zone has successfully planted 13 new churches. Six of those churches are large enough to have dedicated pastors and also well-informed congregants in holiness teaching and Nazarene doctrine.
"We praise God for the good work God has done through this amazing team of soul-winners," Sibanda said.[Church of the Nazarene Africa Region via Out of Africa] Read more

Ganta, Liberia
Liberia project empowers women through training
In partnership with Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, the Nazarene Women's Project has been in operation since 2001. Edith N'Boyou, a pastor's wife and the project founder, explained that the program's aim is "... for the people to be empowered to help their families and community and to be a witness ... to share their Christian faith with people in the area."
Not only do the students learn to make baked goods during the nine-month program, but they also learn the process of batik and soap making. The program also includes a spiritual element, as the women study the Bible during daily devotions.
"Visiting the Nazarene Women's Project in Ganta, Liberia, I was instantly impressed with the diligence of the girls who were busily stirring cornbread batter and who had already baked sumptuous potato bread muffins," Nazarene missionary Monica Carr said. "They also had bread dough rising in pans ready to bake in the innovative round aluminum oven, heated with coals placed underneath and on top."
Grace Daniels, a student and class president of the group, said the program has been a big help.
"It helps me learn how to manage and set-up a business," she said.
Not only does the program benefit its students, but the baked goods they make provide healthy snacks for the children of the adjoining church-run school, as well as provide soap and batik for the community.
When asked about her future goals for the program, Edith said she hopes to incorporate a showroom for her goods so that people in the community can more easily see and buy the products.
"I can personally vouch for the potato bread muffins, as the verse, 'Taste and see that the Lord is good,' comes to mind (Psalm 34:8)," Carr said.[Church of the Nazarene Africa Region via Out of Africa] Read more

Asia-Pacific Region announces new strategy
Throughout the conference, participants sought the Lord’s leading, grew in knowledge of Christlike leadership, and prayerfully committed to a common vision and strategy for reaching the Asia-Pacific Region for Christ.
Regional Director Mark Louw shared 441, a vision that God has placed upon his heart for Kingdom impact. The new strategy is derived from John 4:41: “And because of his words many more became believers” (NIV).
“My vision is for the Church of the Nazarene to be a Spirit-led, disciple-making movement, wherein all are intentionally growing in their faith and confidence, equipped and empowered to disciple and lead at least one other to faith in Jesus within four years, and for each equipped and resourced local congregation to give birth to another every four years,” Louw said.
Conference highlights include messages from the Word presented by Global Clergy Development Director Stan Rodes and special presentations brought by regional ministry coordinators.
Rodes’ messages centered around the theme Grace for Life.
"On the first day of the conference, there was such an incredible movement of the Spirit," said Todd Aebischer, regional communications coordinator. "As Stan finished, there was an invitation to prayer. The front of the room was lined with those seeking a renewal of their experience of God’s grace. It was truly a powerful time."
The conference ended with a communion service and challenge to go forth in the power of the Lord.
"We are looking forward with great anticipation to what the Lord is going to accomplish on the Asia-Pacific Region in the days ahead," Aebischer said. [Church of the Nazarene Asia-Pacific Region] Read more

MNU, KC First Church partner to help sponsor Bresee film
Brad Estep, lead pastor of Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene, presented MidAmerica Nazarene University President David Spittal with a gift of $16,500 to contribute toward the production of a film on the life of Phineas Bresee, a co-founder of the Church of the Nazarene in the western U.S. The funds are part of an estate gift given to KC First Church. Estep says the church is distributing the gift to a number of projects.
Phineas Bresee: A Large Souled Man, scheduled for release in summer 2017 at the Church of the Nazarene's General Assembly and Conventions, is being produced by Inversion, a Kansas City-based creative production company. The film about the life and ministry of the first general superintendent of the united church will chronicle this shaper of Nazarene identity and highlight Bresee's commitment to holiness and concern for the poor and marginalized.
“Bresee can teach us some things about the message of holiness and ministry to the broken of this world,” Estep said.
Spittal agrees, adding that the film should become an important teaching tool on Nazarene university campuses.
“Today’s students may not realize the roots of the Nazarenes do not look like the suburban churches we see today," he said. "Long before it became a generational cry to give of oneself in service, the Church of the Nazarene was ministering alongside the downtrodden. This is really how the church started.”
Bryon McLaughlin, editor of Grace and Peace magazine, said the film is part of a larger denominational initiative to introduce to some and reintroduce to others a significant founder of the church.
“There’s a relationship between memory and mission,” McLaughlin said. “When we know where we come from it helps us understand our mission.”
McLaughlin said the 45-to-50-minute film will be made available to every Nazarene church in the USA and Canada. He hopes its distribution will become global.
“We hope when people see the film they will think, ‘if that’s what he [Bresee] was about, I’d love to be a part of that church, the Church of the Nazarene.’”
MNU will distribute the gift from KC First Church to the filmmakers and as such will be a significant contributor to the project. Readers can view a clip of the film here.[MidAmerica Nazarene University] Read more
