Prayer ExampleJesus, you have called us to love all people; and, you demonstrated the way to do this in your life. (Matthew 5:43-44, John 3:16). Even though we don’t like to admit it, we have enemies or we have made enemies through our own sin, selfishness, attitudes, actions, and pride.
Ever patient God, reveal to us those for whom we still harbor anger, jealousy, or contempt. Help us be mindful that words and phrases cause pain to us and to others.
We pray now for your grace and guidance. Deliver us from speaking words that belittle our sisters and brothers who differ from us in race, religion, theology, politics, and economics. Help us face our own fears and insecurities. Give us the courage to cling tightly to You. Send the Holy Spirit to show us the way. You alone have the power to change our hearts. We desire to be like you-offering radical hospitality to all people-including our enemies.
Please, Lord, make it so. Amen.
