The California-Pacific Conference is called to prayer for the East Congo Episcopal Area from where Bishop Gabriel Unda has reported that, on the night of Saturday, August 13, 2016, a group of terrorists allied with Daesch attacked the city of Beni with machetes and knives, burnt houses, and raped women and young girls.
At least 40 people are believed to have been killed including two daughters of a United Methodist District Superintendent. The District Superintendent himself was injured in the attack and was taken to a hospital.
Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño has conveyed her prayers directly to Bishop Unda who has asked for prayers for all affected in his area including those who flee from their homes for safety, the church, the country, and its leaders.
Lord, in your mercy...

"Call to Prayer: Blue Cut Fire in Wrightwood"
The California-Pacific Conference is called to prayer for Wrightwood and its surrounding communities affected by the Blue Cut Fire where evacuations lasted for several days.
Pastor Dave Conrad of Community United Methodist Church of Wrightwood has reported that firefighters were able to stop the fire at the eastern edge of the city and that the church, as well as our United Methodist Camp Wrightwood, are now beginning to return to normal. Jennifer Berry, Director of Camp Wrightwood, recently reported that thankfully the Camp was not directly affected.
However, one family of Community UMC did lose their house and their belongings to the fire. What they were able to save were their horses and the clothes that they were wearing as they evacuated. To assist this family, gift cards for stores where clothes and utensils could be purchased, or a donation to the "Wrightwood UMC Crisis Fund" with "Rita and Simon" on the Memo line of the check, are being received by the church.
