The Upper Room Daily Devotional from Nashville, Tennessee, United States “REFLECTIONS” for Monday, 8 August 2016 with Scripture: Philippians 4:4-9

issue coverThe Upper Room Daily Devotional from Nashville, Tennessee, United States “REFLECTIONS” for Monday, 8 August 2016 with Scripture: Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in union with the Lord always! I will say it again: rejoice! 5 Let everyone see how reasonable and gentle you are. The Lord is near! 6 Don’t worry about anything; on the contrary, make your requests known to God by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving. 7 Then God’s shalom, passing all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with the Messiah Yeshua. 8 In conclusion, brothers, focus your thoughts on what is true, noble, righteous, pure, lovable or admirable, on some virtue or on something praiseworthy. 9 Keep doing what you have learned and received from me, what you have heard and seen me doing; then the God who gives shalom will be with you.

Be still, and know that I am God.[Psalm 46:10 (NIV)]
Before winter arrived, my wife and I embarked on a road trip. The colors of the autumn leaves were amazing. As we absorbed the beauty of God’s creation, we began looking more carefully at the many small dams along the side of the road. The reflections of the trees and hills in the areas of still waters were breathtaking.
The scriptures have much to say about how we need to reflect Christ to the world, to show Christ to the world by the lives we live. Over the years, I have often heard Christian friends express how difficult it is to do this in our busy world. Perhaps we can look again at the reflections on the water and understand that perfect reflections only occur in perfect stillness. If we want to know Christ better and reflect Christ to the world, we can start by being still and seeking the peace that passes all understanding in our hearts. In this way we will be better able to share that peace with the world.
