Caregiving across state lines: 45+ states pass law to help
AARP | August 15, 2016

"The good news is, 45 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico have already passed the Uniform Adult Guardianship and Protective Proceedings Jurisdictions Act (UAGPPJA), a law to support family caregivers serving as guardians as they care for their parents, spouses and other loved ones across state lines. This includes Georgia, Louisiana and North Carolina, where this important act was signed into law in 2016."
Successful aging: A brain game that reduces dementia risk
Los Angeles Daily News | August 15, 2016

"At the recent Alzheimer's Association International Conference in Toronto, Jerri Edwards, an associate professor in the school of Aging Studies at the University of South Florida, announced a breakthrough study that reduces the risk of dementia with compelling scientific evidence. The study conducted over a 10-year period with 2,802 healthy adults living in the community, age 65 and older. The bottom line: An exercise was found to cut the risk of dementia by 48 people asked to train 14 hours."
Long-term care is an immediate problem for the government
Next Avenue | August 16, 2016

"Experts estimate that about half of all people turning 65 today will need daily help as they age, either at home or in nursing homes. Such long-term care will cost an average of about $91,000 for men and double that for women because the live longer."
Palliative care helps patient satisfaction during major illness
Patient Engagement | August 18, 2016

"The role of family and caregivers is crucial to the patient experience. This importance is perhaps heightened with patients who are battling a life-threatening illness. Delivering palliative care to family members and caregivers is an important part of maintaining unity between patient, family, and care team."
