Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant - from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West in Olathe, Kansas, United States for Friday, 12 August 2016
Resurrection West,
It’s back to school time! We’ve got a 5th grader and 2nd grader in the Gant household and the girls are so excited for this school year! I’m also very excited for the new series we begin this Sunday on Moses. Pastor Adam spent time earlier this year in Egypt (funded by the United Methodist Publishing House - Abingdon Press) studying and traveling through Egypt for a deeper understanding of the life of Moses and the Exodus story. This will be a very engaging series as we journey together through the life of Moses. We also have a Monday night study coinciding with this series including a meal and childcare. More details below. Invite a friend, neighbor, co-worker or friend. Just yesterday I met someone for the first time and invited them to worship. I hope to greet them in worship on Sunday.
This Sunday is what we call “promotion Sunday” where our children and students move up to their next grade-level. We have nursery and Sunday school up through 5th grade at all three services and SundaySchool for 6th-8th graders at 9am and 10:45am. We encourage our high school students to worship with their families at 9am, 10:45am, or 5pm. Here are the specific age and grade-level breakdowns for KiDSCOR Children’s Ministry and rezlife student ministries:

Serve with the Backpacks Ministry or Become a Backpack Angel - Did you know that over 90% of the children at our partner school, Ridgeview Elementary, qualify for free or reduced lunches? Families at risk for hunger struggle to provide children with the nutrition they need to thrive. As a result, many children come to school too distracted by their empty stomachs to focus on doing well in school. The Backpacks for Hunger program provides needed food to children who would otherwise not receive adequate nutrition during the weekends or school breaks. There are many ways to help. You can pick up food, fill bags, deliver bags and/or assist with administrative tasks. For more information on serving, please contact our RezWest Backpacks Coordinator, Jill Crockett, at rezwestbackpacks@gmail.com. You can also help a child at one of Resurrection’s partner schools get the nutrition they need by being a "Backpack Angel". A gift of $200 will support a child for the entire school year. You can help a child now with a monthly or yearly monetary contribution. Electronic payment options are available through August 14. Go tocor.org/giveonline and select the “Give Online With Pushpay” tab. Cash, Check and EFT (Elecronic Funds Transfer) options are available year-round at cor.org/backpacks.
Financial Peace University - This 9-week life-changing course begins Thursday night September 15th(6:30-8:15 pm) and childcare is available. The course is $100 and is designed to empower people to manage their money, eliminate debt and and build wealth. Register at cor.org/fpu
No FaithWork this Saturday. Just a reminder that when we have MEGA MISSION in a month, we do not have FaithWork on that month’s second Saturday. The next FaithWork will be at 9 am on Saturday, September 10. But remember, you can serve your neighbors near and far in a host of ways anytime, anywhere. Happy serving!

My hope is that each of you will get involved across RezWest this fall. We have men’s groups, women’s groups, studies, service opportunities and more all to fulfill our purpose of building a Christian community where non-religious and nominally religious people are becoming deeply committed Christians. I also hope you will make a renewed commitment to be in worship every week! When we come together each week the Holy Spirit moves and fills us to go out as Christ’s light.
I can’t wait to kick off this new series with you on Sunday, but for now I’m off to officiate a wedding, which is always such an honor!
Looking forward to worshiping with you on Sunday,
Pastor Jason
