Dear Pastor and Lay Leader,
Grace and peace to you in the New Year in the mighty name of Christ Jesus!
We are proud to share with you that local churches throughout our California-Pacific Conference have
already raised $50,000 towards our goal of preventing 300,000 deaths through the Imagine No Malaria
Initiative even before our official launch! On January 15, 2014 at the Los Angeles Clippers game, we will
celebrate the beginning of this initiative. Imagine No Malaria is our denomination’s effort to prevent
the deaths of 7.5 million people in sub-Saharan Africa where a life is lost every 60 seconds to malaria.
Many of us in Cal-Pac may not be aware that our Conference Treasurer, Archana Carey, suffered from
malaria as a young mother living in Africa. The traumatic ordeal was painful both emotionally and
physically. In fact, she can still see the faces of those around her who did not survive and she still has
the scars on her back from malaria treatment. Thankfully, she survived and she shares her story with us
today, so that we might make a difference in preventing others from contracting this terrible disease.
We hope that you will prayerfully consider a God-sized goal for your congregation. We suggest that
you make a goal of $100 ($10 saves a life) per average Sunday morning worship attendance. This
means that if you have an average worship attendance of 50, your goal would be $5,000; if 100, then
$10,000. While our aim is to reach our goal in 2014, we will work with you into 2015 if necessary.
Some important events for Imagine No Malaria Cal-Pac include:
 Los Angeles Clippers Game (January 15, 2014) - Official launch of Imagine No Malaria Cal-Pac,
including a free t-shirt with the purchase of each ticket
 World Malaria Day Conference-Wide Pancake Breakfast (April 26-27, 2014)
 Alternative Giving opportunities throughout the year
 2014 Annual Conference Recognition of our local churches faithful work
As the first step, please complete and return the enclosed forms announcing your congregation’s
fundraising goal and local church coordinator, no later than January 30, 2014. To support your efforts,
additional stories and other resources are available at our Imagine No Malaria Cal-Pac website
(buzzkills.net) including those for Alternative Giving Days, Vacation Bible School, and Advent 2014.
Together, by the grace of God, we can help change the future of the African continent, and transform
the world as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Peace,
Rev. Kathy Cooper-Ledesma
