San Diego First United Methodist Church Next Sunday, 15 June 2014 Heart of Christianity Class Questions

San Diego First United Methodist Church Next Sunday, 15 June 2014 Heart of Christianity Class Questions
Hi Everybody:
For next Sunday's class, I think we should concentrate on the three pages (57-59) at the end of the chapter.  A careful reading of what Crossan writes on these three pages will be critical for your understanding of where he wants to take us in his book.  The information on these last 3 pages form, I believe, the crux of what Crossan has to say in this chapter.  The previous pages contain details and other desiderata leading up to the 3 ending pages.  Please read these 3 pages with considerable diligence, because that's where we'll focus our attention.  You will find enlightenment on the other, previous pages, if you want to read them to fill in your complete understanding.
Here are some issues and questions to ponder for our discussion.
1. How does Crossan explain the terms: eschatology, apocalypticism, and apocalyptic eschatology.?
2. What term does Crossan believe Jesus represents and what term does he believe John the Baptist represent?  Why?
3. P. 58, last Parag.  Crossan points out the difference between "a wider or generic and a narrower or specific term."  How does the author distinguish between the two categories within the matter he is discussion.
4. Finally, can you understand the masterful message Albert Schweitzer offers in the last paragraph?  How does this apply to you?  Explain.
Please bring your "A-Game" to the discussion.  You never know that what you say might inspire someone else.  Best wishes and hasta domingo ,  Ben
