Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Monday, 16 June 2014 "Isaiah"

Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Monday, 16 June 2014 "Isaiah"
The vision concerning Judah and Jerusalem that Isaiah son of Amoz saw during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah (Isaiah 1:1).
As we continue our "Cliff Notes" through the Bible, we come at last to the majestic Book of Isaiah.  For many years I "lived" with Isaiah, with my Ph.D. dissertation being on Isaiah 24 - 27, some translation work for the NRSV on Isaiah, and more.  Oh, how I wish I could have known this remarkable figure.  This week we'll get to meet him and some of his teachings, wisdom that presents some of the loftiest and grandest understanding of God in all of literature.
But our verse above shows the first thing:  Isaiah lived a long time, and his vision (or many scholars suggest: his vision and the vision of his disciples covered well over 200 years, and yes, even looked into the future to a young woman giving birth to a child who would become Immanuel, Wonderful Counselor, and Suffering Servant.  A week will not be long enough, but thanks for joining me for this glimpse into majesty.
