Dear Friends,
Mark your calendars for two big nights:
(1) Sonlight's Sendoff Concert: this Friday (6/13), 7:00 in the Worship Center! Then they're off to New York City! Sendoff is a great time to invite someone new to experience Church like they've never known.
(2). African University Touring Choir Concert: Thursday, June 19 at 7:00 in our Worship Center. Several years ago the United Methodist Church made a bold move to make a strategic difference for good in Africa, by creating the Africa University. It is producing outstanding agronomists, economists, pastors, scientists, political leaders who are from all over the continent and are making a great impact. I hope you will attend the concert, as it will be outstanding. In addition, we need housing for 9 men and 9 women. Please contact Tammy or call 416-3005 if you can host one or two of these young people. You'll be glad you did. You just need to give them breakfast in the morning and bring them to church by 9:30. Thanks!
Looking ahead, our own Professor Jennifer Rea, who teaches in the Classics Dept. at UF, will be giving a lecture on St. Perpetua, one of the earliest and few women Christian martyrs that we have record of. It's a fascinating story, one that Dr. Rea has written much about. Plan to join us: Sunday evening at 7:00, June 22.
All the clergy and several Trinity members will be in Lakeland the latter half of this week for the Florida Annual Conference. We always have a Trinity luncheon for current and past Trinity folks, so we'll pass your greetings along to Mark Becker, David Allen, Kandace Brooks and anyone else who are a part of our Trinity family.
Oh, if you're near our campus this week, you will likely hear the joyful noise of 450 children, youth and adults at Vacation Bible School. I asked our Granddaughter at the close of the first day how she liked it: "I loved it, all of it! We got to blast off soda cans!"
This is the first year they have science and Jeff, Jack, Ralph, Bob and the boys have great scientific, spiritual lessons (with lesson plans too!, yes, it's true!), which sounds a lot like how Jesus used parables.
Love and Prayers, Dan

Title: Concerning God's Heart
Scripture: Psalm 146:1 Praise Yah!
Praise Yahweh, my soul.
2 While I live, I will praise Yahweh.
I will sing praises to my God as long as I exist.
3 Don’t put your trust in princes,
each a son of man in whom there is no help.
4 His spirit departs, and he returns to the earth.
In that very day, his thoughts perish.
5 Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help,
whose hope is in Yahweh, his God:
6 who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them;
who keeps truth forever;
7 who executes justice for the oppressed;
who gives food to the hungry.
Yahweh frees the prisoners.
8 Yahweh opens the eyes of the blind.
Yahweh raises up those who are bowed down.
Yahweh loves the righteous.
9 Yahweh preserves the foreigners.
He upholds the fatherless and widow,
but the way of the wicked he turns upside down.
10 Yahweh will reign forever;
your God, O Zion, to all generations.
Praise Yah!

John Wesley's Notes-Commentary:
Psalm 146
Verse 4
[4] His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.
That day — As soon as ever he is dead.
Thoughts — All his designs and endeavours either for himself or for others.
Verse 6
[6] Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever:
For ever — Both because he liveth for ever to fulfil his promises, and because he is eternally faithful.

A word from Rev. Esther: Thank you so much, Trinity, for your help in collecting children's vitamins and medicines for my upcoming trip to Haiti! I'm thankful for this faith community that allows me the opportunity to do something I deeply love. I'm also excited about this Sunday as I'll have the chance to preach at all three services on the theme of justice, to close our missions-focused sermon series. Hope to see you there! I'm praying for you - hope you'll pray for me as well.
A word from Rev. Aaron: It was so good to gather together this Sunday and pray for a fresh outpouring of God's Spirit. I encourage you to continue this prayer this week as the clergy and lay leadership from all of the United Methodist churches in Florida gather in Lakeland for Annual Conference. May the work done there this week reflect God's will for the Church, in "the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." Cliff Patrick will be preaching at the 6:35 service on Wednesday.

This week's Mission Box will go directly towards our VBS mission of building a house for a Haitian family. The earthquake left more than 1.5 million people homeless; as a result many are still living in tents four years later. The cost of building a home is $1,200. The kids at VBS this week are doing their part to collect funds, let's join them and see how many homes Trinity can build in Haiti. This Sunday we are blessed to have Pastor Willio of "Future for Haiti" joining us in worship. Come here what amazing things are taking place in Haiti.
Are you still looking for something to do this summer with your family?
What about something that will allow you to make a difference in someone's life. Trinity has a mission opportunity that is geared toward the whole family. This summer we have a trip to St. Simons Island, Georgia July 31 - August 3. We will be working with a mission organization called Mtn2Sea Ministries. Our project will consist of painting, yard work and light construction. This mission trip is a great first time experience for families with children and those looking at getting their toes wet in Missions. For more information please contact Ted Grueser or Elizabeth Jones.
Living Waters Mission Trip to Northern Haiti is
September 20-27, 2014.
We will be drilling a fresh water well and teaching good water
practices to the local community. The trip cost is $2,000 and includes airfare, meals and accommodations. Trip is limited to 12 people, ages 14 and older. If you are interested in participating, please email Ted at tgrueser@trinitygnv.org.

Conference News...
We received a letter from our bishop Ken Carter thanking our church for being one of the churches in the Conference to give 100 percent of our apportionments in 2013. Our representatives at Annual Conference will receive a sign of recognition for being part of one of these churches. Apportionments are your church's share of the funding of the budgets of The United Methodist Church around the world, the Florida Conference, and our District. These budgets are developed and approved by our conference elected representatives, either as members of the Annual Conference or delegates to the General Conference.
When every congregation contributes 100 percent of its apportionments, the whole church is able to meet its many responsibilities to mission and ministry. In short, lives are changed because of our stewardship.
* Children are fed at feeding programs;
* Young men and women receive financial assistance towards their education at Bethune-Cookman University or Florida Southern College;
* Retreat and camp settings help grow and make disciples of Jesus by offering invitations to go further in understanding of being a Christian;
* New churches are planted;
* Existing churches are transformed to better meet the needs of the community.
Thanks for all you do, Trinity!
