Resurrection West,
Yesterday I attended a staff training event for this year's Leadership Institute coming Sept 24-26. This will be the 16th year of Institute designed to inspire, encourage, and equip ministry leaders who attend. We have almost 1700 registered from 42 states, plus Russia, and Cuba with more registrations coming in every day. We do this every year as a part of our vision to renew Churches. You may also be interested in serving at the event. We will need many volunteers to help this year's conference be a success. I'm excited to be leading a workshop this year on vision casting!
We welcomed 65 new members into our Church family last Sunday at coffee with the pastors. Here are their names. I want to encourage you if you see someone you know to reach out and welcome them to Resurrection West. We will invite our new members to stand and be recognized in each worship service this Sunday.

This Sunday is a "Family-Friendly Worship Sunday" meaning we invite our children to be in worship with their families at all three worship services. Activity packets will be available at the front door. Pastor Adam continuesThe Power of Words series with an important sermon on Religion and Politics and the power of our words to divide a nation or to unite it. Adam interviewed Jack Danforth as a part of this message for Sunday. Jack Danforth was the US ambassador to the United Nations and served for 18 years in the US Senate. He’s also an Episcopal priest and founder of the Danforth Center for Religion and Politics. This will be an important message on how we bring our faith to bear on the words we use in politics.
Finally, I regret to share with you that Tyler Jenkins will be resigning as our Director of Student Ministries at Resurrection West. He will continue as a contracted program director on Wednesday evenings through January 2015. Sunday program leadership will be absorbed by the Resurrection West pastors and staff team during this transition. There is one program date change due to this transition - Confirmation will now be launching on Sept. 21st, rather than Sept.14th as communicated earlier. I will be leading confirmation for our 8th-12th grade students. Register at rezwest.org/students by clicking on Confirmation.
Tyler did not come to this decision without much prayer and counsel. He was offered an opportunity to return to the corporate world. This new position would greatly benefit his family, especially during this season of their lives. Tyler continues to feel a strong call to ministry and will seek ways to live this going forward. We are thankful he will be able to continue in his Wednesday night leadership for continuity and consistency with our students. This will give us time to search for the next youth pastor to follow in his footsteps.
Tyler and I informed the students during both youth group gatherings this past Wednesday night. We prayed over him and spent some time answering questions. An email went out to parents and our campus advisory team informing them that day.
We all care deeply for Tyler and his family (Taylor and Millie). Please pray for them in this time of transition. God has done incredible and meaningful work through Tyler and I believe God will continue to use him to build the Kingdom.
