PASTOR’S PAGE
Often in life we question where is God amidst all the challenges and adversity we experience as human beings. Disease, death, natural disasters, where is a good God’s protection when innocent people suffer? This fall, on Monday evenings, beginning September 8, at The Red Door Café on Broad Street, in Waverly, New York, I
will be leading a faith dialogue about “Finding Faith When Life Doesn’t Make Sense—Where is God When Life Hurts?” The dialogue will be held from 6:30-8pm. We are blessed that our Upper New York Conference of the United Methodist Church is paying the costs of this outreach initiative. This will be a discussion group open to the public, and people of all faith perspectives are most welcome to attend.
In addition, for the growing Christian, I welcome our church family and community to a wonderful and comprehensive Bible study called “Covenant”. For eight weeks on Wednesday mornings from 10am-Noon, and Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm, September 17, 24, October 8, 15, 22, 29, and November 5 and 12, we will study, in depth, the major themes of the Christian Old Testament, (The
Hebrew Scriptures). Together we will gain insight into God’s deep desire to give life and blessing to all the people of the earth. Refreshments will be served at both morning and evening sessions.
It is my deepest desire that all of us as people of faith, will come to understand God’s purposes, to love and sustain us all, even in the midst of human adversity.
Pastor Anne

We regret to inform the congregation and community that there will not be a Harvest Supper this year. As we bid farewell to an old tradition of the church, we look forward with great certainty that new church traditions will emerge. May God lead our church
forward through the ages as we approach our Centennial celebration in October 2015. The first meeting of our Centennial planning committee, lead by June Keuhn, will be held September 4 at 7pm in the library. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. We thank June for her leadership on this important endeavor. In addition, our Leadership meetings are held the first and third Saturdays of the month, at 10am in the lounge. Anyone wishing to help with discussing plans for new emerging ministries of the church, as well as the Centennial, is welcome to attend. The planning meetings are open to all youth and adults in our church. We would like to hear your ideas for new ministries and groups in our church.

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM OUR FINANCE COMMITTEEFinancial Status and Thoughts of Financial Commitments of the
Church
Following are some numbers that are important to understand:
Expenses to date = $107,766.00
Income to date = $96,484.00
Deficit of $11,280.00
For comparison purposes:
Expenses 2013 = $111,875.00
Income 2013 = $99,903.00
Thus, expenses for 2014 have decreased by $4,109.00
Income for 2014 has decreased by $2,609.00
So in summary, our income has decreased in 2014. There was an
increase in ministry shares by $2,200.00. However expenses were
cut by $4,019.00 to date. Income has been down, so I think it is important to reflect these numbers, thus assuring everyone that we are truly managing our budget. I would add at this time, when preparing the 2015 budget, line item by line item will be reviewed and justified by responsible persons.
So, what does this mean? In summary, we still have 28 weeks left in the year. With expenses to be approximately $56,000, which dictates the average weekly income must be $3,111.
Giving for the time period of 1/1/14 to 8/2/14 was $2850.00 per
week. Please give this financial information your utmost thought
and consideration, thus with your support and the Grace of God, I am confident at year end we will be on solid ground.
Al Englebert/Finance Committee
