"and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light" (emphasis added)
Last night I was dealing with some "unqualified" insecurities. I felt I was completely unqualified for the journey I am on. I had prayed, and reached out to my spiritual momma/mentor/keep-me-in-line person. She reminded me I am qualified. She took me to the above passage in Scripture and reminded me qualification is in Him. I just need to rest in that.
So how do you rest in being qualified? First, remember our journey is about Him. We must reflect Him, even when others deem us unqualified. Next, we must rest in the fact that He calls us qualified. The world will call you names, identify you by certain stereotypes and labels, but God calls you by His truth He has already created in you. Being qualified is neither our talents, nor gifting. Being qualified is something we are in Him. It is who He calls us. But why did I feel unqualified.
Shelia, my spiritual,kick-me-into-shape momma, saw passed what I was saying, and saw my heart. She spoke to my spirit. See, I am a person who loves to fellowship with others, and share God's love with whoever will listen. I want everyone to know God loves them, and He has so much more for them than they could ever imagine. I am not talking materialistic things. I am speaking of peace, love, relationships, fellowship, community, and most of all Him. He is truly amazing. I want the world to know.
So are you feeling unqualified? Feeling a bit insecure? Well in closing, here is the same verse, plus a few more verses, from a different version.
Colossians 1:10 - Go on a walkabout tour to explore the extent of the land that is yours under his Lordship. Now you can conduct yourselves appropriately towards him, pleasing him in every harvest of good works that you bear. Meanwhile, you continue to increase in your intimate acquaintance with that which God knows to be true about you. This results in the most attractive and fulfilled life possible.
1:11 You are empowered in the dynamic of God’s strength; his mind is made up about you! He enables you to be strong in endurance and steadfastness with joy. (His glorious power, or doxa, comes from dokeo, to recognize for what it really is, true opinion; God’s intention—his mind made up.)
1:12 We are grateful to the Father who qualified us to participate in the complete portion of the inheritance of the saints in the light.
1:13 He rescued us from the dominion of darkness (the sense-ruled world, dominated by the law of performance) and relocated us into the kingdom where the love of his son rules.[The Mirror Bible]
