Psalm 103:15 Yes, a human being’s days are like grass,
he sprouts like a flower in the countryside —
16 but when the wind sweeps over, it’s gone;
and its place knows it no more.
17 But the mercy of Adonai on those who fear him
is from eternity past to eternity future,
and his righteousness extends
to his children’s children,
18 provided they keep his covenant
and remember to follow his precepts.
19 Adonai has established his throne in heaven;
his kingly power rules everything.
20 Bless Adonai, you angels of his,
you mighty warriors who obey his word,
who carry out his orders!
21 Bless Adonai, all his troops,
who serve him and do what he wants!
22 Bless Adonai, all his works,
in every place where he rules!
Bless Adonai, my soul!

After yet another difficult day of high school, I came home to find a small blue envelope on my desk. My mother had written the letter when I was one year old. The three pages of journal paper were the texture of rose petals and tinged yellow with age. I teared up as I read through my mother’s joyful record of the first year I began to explore the world. She confessed her love and pride for me even before I could crawl. Though I was a teenager, my mom’s letter made me feel like a bright-eyed little boy again.
Two years after delivering the first letter, my mom wrote me another one. I found it on the desk of my new dorm room at college. The envelope was crisp and bright; my mother’s handwriting had changed, but her love for me had not. I realized then that my mom loves me as God loves me.
I know I’ve failed in my relationship with my mom over the years. How much more have I failed to bring glory to God! Yet, both God and my mom continue to love me, showering me with grace. The world constantly changes and will eventually fade away, but God’s love for us will outlast the world. The Bible assures us that we are loved despite our sin and is the greatest love letter of all.
