“The most helpful experience while at Elmira was the required internship. That internship has still been influential till this day.”
As a History major, Chris Cormier ’10 realized his passion and decided to pursue a career with the Federal Government. Upon graduating Chris began his career with the Internal Revenue Service in the Accounts Management and Automated Under Reporter. Before transitioning to the Department of State as a Passport Specialist at the National Passport Center. Recently, Chris accepted a Management Analyst position in Resource Management and Organizational Analysis with the Workforce Planning and Analysis division in Washington DC.
Chris notes a number of influences at Elmira College that led him to his success; first and foremost he credits his advisor Dr. Robert Shephard, who was always available when he needed advice. Small class sizes and personalized attention from professors fostered a successful learning environment which Chris still appreciates today.
Chris became a member of WECW upon arriving on campus, and also was a member of the Elmira College Democrats, and the Student Senate. Chris founded the Elmira College Comix Club and successfully petitioned the senate to make it an official club. He was involved in the Theater Department as a technician, and as a performer in numerous plays and musicals, as well as being a member of the Men’s JV Lacrosse team for his entire four years.
For current and prospective students Chris notes his experience was successful by being fully immersed in college life “Elmira College is definitely unique; only a select group will get to experience. Friends and memories will last a lifetime, if I had a chance to re-do college, I would not change a thing.”
