“My Life Flows On in Endless Song” (ELW 763)
1. My life flows on in endless song;
above earth's lamentation,
I catch the sweet, though far-off hymn
that hails a new creation.
Refrain:
No storm can shake my inmost calm
while to that Rock I'm clinging.
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth,
how can I keep from singing?
2. Through all the tumult and the strife,
I hear that music ringing.
It finds an echo in my soul.
How can I keep from singing?
Refrain:
No storm can shake my inmost calm
while to that Rock I'm clinging.
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth,
how can I keep from singing?
3. What though my joys and comforts die?
The Lord my Savior liveth.
What though the darkness gather round?
Songs in the night he giveth.
Refrain:
No storm can shake my inmost calm
while to that Rock I'm clinging.
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth,
how can I keep from singing?
4. The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart,
a fountain ever springing!
All things are mine since I am his!
How can I keep from singing?
Refrain:
No storm can shake my inmost calm
while to that Rock I'm clinging.
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth,
how can I keep from singing?

It seems like daily there are more and more reasons for us to be filled with fear and hesitation in this world. We are constantly drawn to the stories of war, death and corruption that take place and they all can be quite discouraging. These painful stories drown out the "sweet, though far-off hymn that hails a new creation." We are shaken up constantly.
However, this hymn reminds us that there is an inner peace that passes all understanding who is Christ Jesus our Lord. No matter how terrible the storms that seek to destroy our calm, when we cling to the promise that it is Christ who is Lord of heaven and earth and not the powers of sin, death and the devil, we cannot be shaken to the core. May this song we sing be a testament to the hope we have in our God.
Lord, our rock and our redeemer, instill in us your peace. May our voices rise against the terrors of this world with words of hope, encouragement and love. Amen.
