Greetings RezDowntowners,
I hope this message finds you doing well. It is a beautiful Friday in downtown Kansas City. After a few morning meetings, Wendy, Freddy and I took it to the streets and spent the balance of the morning walking around downtown Kansas City. It was energizing to see so much activity. Not only is this a First Fridays weekend, but the KC Irish Fest is happening alongside the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts' Five Year Anniversary Celebration. All of that is happening in addition to the weekend series at the 'K' between the Kansas City Royals and the infamous Detroit Tigers. It’s going to be an awesome weekend to say the least. However, above all of those things, what I’m most excited about is spending time with you in worship this weekend. This Labor Day weekend we’ll have a great chance to let our children lead the way during a Family Worship Weekend. Our families and children will be serving in worship as greeters, ushers and as Scripture readers among other things. Pastor Patrick, our newest pastor on staff, will be preaching live at each one of our services. I’m looking forward to this because Patrick is planning on sharing a message focusing on the work we do and how God seems to call us to become faithful disciples not by doing a whole bunch of work, but by simply being with others. Patrick will be taking a hard look at one of my favorite scriptural stories, the story of two sisters, Mary and Martha! I’m excited for you to hear him and get to know him a bit more in the process. I’m excited to be back this weekend in worship as well…I missed being with you last weekend! In the meantime, I hope you are well and I hope you have a chance not simply to connect with the church this weekend, but that you also have a chance to enjoy this amazing city on such a beautiful holiday weekend!

These teams would serve within the church, but outside of services. The three teams being formed are the Large Event Volunteer Team, the Administrative Volunteer Team and the Hospitality Volunteer Team. SWAT Game Night - RezDowntown’s SWAT (35-and-older Singles With A Twist) group will mix it up this month! Women’s Breakfast Series Fall Kickoff! You won’t want to miss this breakfast on September 10 at 9am, as we hear from none other than Kelly Sisney, Director of Operations for Resurrection Downtown, as she addresses Love, Laughter and the Lord! And knowing Kelly, it will be heavy on the laughter! Bring a breakfast item to share … bring a friend … come and get to know other women! Rezdt 20/30 Young Adults Trivia Tuesday, September 13 at 7 pm at Cinder Block Brewery. Do you have a lot of knowledge that is going unused? Do you know a bit of trivia? Friendship on the Margins with Pastor Patrick – Thursdays at 6:30pm, beginning September 22. Join Pastor Patrick as he leads this 6-week study which deals with the concept that in our anonymous and dehumanized world, the simple practice of friendship is radically countercultural. Sometimes Christians inadvertently marginalize and objectify the very ones they most want to serve. When we befriend those on the margins of society by practicing hospitality and welcome, we create communities where righteousness and justice can be lived out. The book for this study, Friendship on the Margins, by Christopher L. Heuertz and Christine D. Pohl may be purchased on line. Scholarships are available. MEN’S CAMPOUT! September 23-24. Join other guys for this amazing time of fellowship starting Friday, Sept. 23, at 1 pm with lunch, followed by an afternoon of hiking, fishing and target practice. Dinner is at 6:30 pm, followed by a spiritual lesson around the campfire. Stay the night and sleep under the stars on private land near Williamsburg, KS (about 1 hour south of RezDT). Enjoy breakfast together, more spirit-led discussion and be out by mid-day. Cash donations to help offset groceries will be collected in a free will donation at the event. Positive Parenting begins Sunday, September 25 at 10:30am. It’s a negative world and often a hard place to be positive, especially when parenting. Stress, jobs, activities and more make it difficult to raise our children in a positive way. Be a part of this 3-week study led by Justin Bastin, a licensed therapist, who will help you create strategies for raising your child or children in an uplifting fashion for both you and your child! Childcare will be available at the McGee building while you attend these classes at the Grand location. Leadership Institute 2016: Join volunteers across all campuses at Leadership Institute 2016 in providing hospitality to 2,000 church leaders from across the nation attending this training event designed to equip, renew and inspire. Guests will learn leadership lessons from the life of Moses in plenaries led by Pastor Adam, attend practical ministry workshops led by guest speakers and Resurrection staff and participate in meaningful worship. Volunteer opportunities available 9/28-30 and for conference preparation 9/22. We will utilize over 1,000 volunteer hours during Leadership Institute, so we’ll need volunteers from all campuses to help welcome and serve these guests. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the church’s vision to renew the church! Ask a friend to join you or volunteer with your small group.
