-------"On our way rejoicing" (ELW 537, verse 1)
1. On our way rejoicing
gladly let us go.
Christ our Lord has conquered;
vanquished is the foe.
Christ without, our safety;
Christ within, our joy;
who, if we be faithful,
can our hope destroy?
Refrain:
On our way rejoicing;
as we forward move,
hearken to our praises,
O blest God of love!

For me it is the most joyous part of our gathering for worship--the sending. Don't get me wrong, it is great for us to be gathered together as a faith community, but our gathering is so that once again we can be sent back into the world. This song of sending sends us as we should be--out into the world rejoicing.
Our faith community has often heard me say that I see our building and our Sunday gathering as our mission outpost. This is where and when we come to be reminded of who we are and what our mission is. This is where we come to get the resources we need so that we can go and live out our mission. This is where we are reminded that we are not alone in the mission into which we are being called. This is where we visibly see that our resources are multiplied when we come together for the same mission. We are called together for the sake of the promise being proclaimed to our neighbors. How wonderful when we can see that this isn't just the one congregation we belong to, but rather the whole church of Christ coming together.
Wonderful God, fill us with your awe that we may be sent rejoicing and proclaiming the good news of Jesus for all to hear, see and know. In Jesus' name. Amen.
