"Serving" for Sunday, 28 May 2017 - Deaf Devo - The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States - Bible Reading: 1 Peter 4:10-11
1 Peter 4:10 As each one has received some spiritual gift, he should use it to serve others, like good managers of God’s many-sided grace — 11 if someone speaks, let him speak God’s words; if someone serves, let him do so out of strength that God supplies; so that in everything God may be glorified through Yeshua the Messiah — to him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen.
-------
When I was a child, I was very shy. But I loved to help other people. I always found ways to help people at church, at home or at school. At the time, I did not know that this is called serving others - I just liked to help people.
Jesus came to earth and showed us how to serve. Jesus healed people and taught how to serve others. One of Jesus' disciples, Peter, talks about serving in our Bible Reading today. Peter explained that God gives each of us special gifts that will "best serve each other" (verse 10b).
God has given you special gifts to use for Him. Maybe your gift is serving other people. God helped me develop that gift when I was very young. Now it is easy for me to be His servant.
Use the gifts God has given you! "Then it is God who will be praised in everything through Jesus Christ" (verse 11b).
"If your gift is speaking, your words should be like words from God. If your gift is serving, you should serve with the strength that God gives." [1 Peter 4:11a]
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me opportunities to serve others. In Jesus' name. Amen.

"Psalm 23 (8)" for Saturday, 27 May 2017 - Deaf Devo - The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States - Bible Reading: Psalm 23:6
Psalm 23:
Goodness and grace will pursue meevery day of my life;
and I will live in the house of Adonai
for years and years to come.
-------
The last verse of Psalm 23 says, "Your goodness and mercy will be with me all my life, and I will live in the Lord's house a long, long time." David ends this psalm with an encouraging thought for all people who follow God.
Throughout this psalm, we have learned about the wonderful things a shepherd does for his sheep. He makes sure his sheep have good grass to eat and clean water to drink. The shepherd protects his sheep from wild animals. And he disciplines and leads his sheep on the right paths. The shepherd is good to his sheep. The sheep want to stay close to their shepherd. They know they will be safe with him.
We have also learned about the wonderful things God, our Shepherd, does for us. He is always with us to protect us, to bless us with good things, to feed us through His Word and to discipline us. We should love God and want to be with Him all the time.
Let God be your Shepherd. Love Him and follow Him every day.
"The Lord is good! There is no
end to his faithful love. We can
trust him forever and ever!"
[Psalm 100:5]
PRAYER: Loving God, thank You for being my Shepherd. In Jesus' name. Amen.
