[Sign the card] Mother's Day surprise! from Emily Bearse, PIH nurse-midwife in Boston, Massachusetts, United States for Tuesday, 2 May 2017

It's just a couple weeks 'til Mother's Day and this year, let's surprise our moms-to-be in Sierra Leone!
This is one of the world's most dangerous nations for pregnant women. Our patients bravely face long journeys and weeks away from home just to deliver in the safest possible place for their babies and themselves.
So this year, I'd LOVE to give these courageous moms their first Mother's Day card. Please, will you send your congrats and sign the card today?

Nearly half of women in Sierra Leone give birth at home. Often, the nearest clinic is hours away on foot, and the journey simply isn't possible—especially while in labor.
So last week, we opened a brand new birth waiting home, where moms can spend their final weeks of pregnancy right next to the PIH-supported Wellbody Clinic—placing them just steps from a safe delivery.
The very first moms are now arriving. Let's make them feel welcome with their first Mother's Day card!
