Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant - Friday, 5 May 2017 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West in Olathe, Kansas, United States

Resurrection West,
Good morning! What a gorgeous day to experience God’s grace and beauty all around! I spent most of the day yesterday praying, reading, and writing for an upcoming sermon series this summer that will coincide with what our kids will learn at Vacation Bible Camp. It's always such a privilege to study and grow in my understanding of Jesus’ teaching. I want to encourage you as we bring the countdown to summer not to 'take a break' from your own personal devotional life. Spending time daily in prayer and scripture and weekly in community worship feeds my soul and builds the foundation within me of God’s work and will.
We continue our Birds & the Bees series this Sunday with Pastor Adam preaching through some meaningful questions; What if I’m single? I’ve been divorced, how do I begin again? I lost the love of my life, now what? Many of us face these questions and Pastor Adam will help us learn more of the top reasons for divorce and how we can divorce-proof our marriages. This will be an important message of hope, love, and grace. This is an ideal Sunday to invite a friend who needs healing, support, and encouragement in their lives. And don’t forget to come early or stay after for the rezlife student missions cookout to support our teens in mission this summer! More details below.
A special thank you goes out to our new communion coordinators for their commitment to their service. Since expanding to four services and more than a thousand sharing in Holy Communion some Sundays, we have welcomed new and expanded leadership roles to help create a powerful experience in the sharing of the Sacrament (once a month at 8am, 9:30am, & 11am - weekly at 5:00pm). These coordinators are responsible for scheduling servers and working with our 5pm leaders -Mark and Jill Harsh. They take care of supplying the elements for communion and work closely with Yolanda Byers - Guest Connections & Hospitality Program Director. Thanks also to Rachel Whitaker and Kim Fedt, who bake the altar table bread and Rich Trump who supplies the juice! I am so grateful for their commitment and invite you to consider serving, especially at the service you attend as we continue to build community within each of our four services. If you are interested in serving yourself, serving with a friend, or serving with a family member, please reach out to one of the coordinators through email below. Serving Holy Communion is one of the powerful ways to worship God. Our servers find it very fulfilling to offer this powerful moment with others!
New Communion Coordinators: Servers Still Needed:

  • Give to Noah’s Bandage Project – Donate cool and fun band-aids for kids that need them. As a cancer patient, Noah Wilson discovered that a bandage is a pretty significant thing. Kids are allowed to hold onto a bandage during uncomfortable procedures. When done, they get to put the bandage on knowing they are fi nished. Also, Noah realized that hospital gowns all look the same; and when chemotherapy makes kids lose their hair, even the kids start to look the same. But the bandages are the cool things that help a kid stand out. If you would like to put a smile on a child’s face in the hospital and at home, place your boxes of band-aids in the Narthex donation bin through Sunday, May 7.
  • Monday Morning Women's Bible Study – will begin a series on May 8 led by Rev. Wayne Castle, retired UMC minister, on WORDS. Finally, tomorrow morning I’ll be running the Heart and Sole 5K with my oldest daughter, Hailey. She may be more excited than I am, but it’s certainly inspiring to see her anticipation for the race. I am thankful she still wants me around at 11 years old, because I know those days will become fewer soon! Prayers are appreciated!
Looking forward to worship on Sunday with you,
Pastor Jason
