Reflecting God – Embrace Holy Living - WordAction - The Nazarene Publishing House (The Foundry Publishing House} in Kansas City, Missouri, United States - The Global Church of the Nazarene for Tuesday, 29 August 2017 - "His Commission, Our Compulsion" by Duane Brush - Matthew 28:8-10; 16-20
Matthew 28:8 So they left the tomb quickly, frightened yet filled with joy; and they ran to give the news to his talmidim. 9 Suddenly Yeshua met them and said, “Shalom!” They came up and took hold of his feet as they fell down in front of him. 10 Then Yeshua said to them, “Don’t be afraid! Go and tell my brothers to go to the Galil, and they will see me there.”
16 So the eleven talmidim went to the hill in the Galil where Yeshua had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they prostrated themselves before him; but some hesitated. 18 Yeshua came and talked with them. He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore, go and make people from all nations into talmidim, immersing them into the reality of the Father, the Son and the Ruach HaKodesh, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember! I will be with you always, yes, even until the end of the age.”
-------In Matthew 28, the story of Jesus and His disciples ends where it began, in Galilee. In this familiar setting, Jesus shared the words that would define their ongoing mission when He returned to the heavenly Father. Four powerful verbs, like mighty engines, drive the work onward: “Go,” “Make disciples,” “Baptize,” and “Teach.” For two millennia, they have compelled Christ's followers outward to "all nations".
The focus of all this energy is the people of the world, the ethnos: multitudes, groups, tribes, and nations. From their home soil, this small group would carry the message of Jesus Christ to three continents: Asia, Europe, and Africa.
Wherever they went, it was “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Languages and cultures would change, but the content of their message remained the same: A Savior Jesus Christ has come; His sacrifice on the cross offers redemption for all people, and His victory over death promises eternal life to all who place their faith in Him.
One promise sustained them and all who obediently follow His commission today: "Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Hymn for Today:
"We've a Story to Tell to the Nations" by Ernest Nichol
1. We've a story to tell to the nations,
that shall turn their hearts to the right,
a story of truth and mercy,
a story of peace and light,
a story of peace and light.
Refrain:
For the darkness shall turn to dawning,
and the dawning to noonday bright;
and Christ's great kingdom shall come on earth,
the kingdom of love and light.
2. We've a song to be sung to the nations,
that shall lift their hearts to the Lord,
a song that shall conquer evil
and shatter the spear and sword,
and shatter the spear and sword.
Refrain:
For the darkness shall turn to dawning,
and the dawning to noonday bright;
and Christ's great kingdom shall come on earth,
the kingdom of love and light. 3. We've a message to give to the nations,
that the Lord who reigneth above
hath sent us his Son to save us,
and show us that God is love,
and show us that God is love.
Refrain:
For the darkness shall turn to dawning,
and the dawning to noonday bright;
and Christ's great kingdom shall come on earth,
the kingdom of love and light.
4. We've a Savior to show to the nations,
who the path of sorrow hath trod,
that all of the world's great peoples
might come to the truth of God,
might come to the truth of God.
Refrain:
For the darkness shall turn to dawning,
and the dawning to noonday bright;
and Christ's great kingdom shall come on earth,
the kingdom of love and light.
Thought for Today:
What we have seen and heard,
    we are proclaiming to you;
so that you too
    may have fellowship with us.
Our fellowship is with the Father
    and with his Son, Yeshua the Messiah.(1 John 1:3).
Please pray:
That many people in Barbados will come to know Yeshua the Messiah and receive the fullness of the Ruach HaKodesh.
