Daily Scripture: 1 Kings 19:19 So he left and found Elisha the son of Shafat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen; he himself was behind the twelfth. Eliyahu went over to him and threw his cloak on him. 20 He left the oxen, ran after Eliyahu and said, “Please let me kiss my father and mother good-bye; then I will follow you.” He answered, “Go; but return, because of what I did to you.” 21 Elisha stopped following him. Then he took the yoke of oxen, slaughtered them, cooked their meat over the wooden yokes of the oxen and gave it to the people to eat. Then he got up, went after Eliyahu and became his servant. Prayer Tip: As a society, we tend to focus on action and accomplishment. We’re always looking at the steps we need to take to make something happen. It’s easy to forget the importance of prayer – even before we take action. In a culture where we tend to segregate ourselves by various demographics, praying about closing those gaps between age groups, races, political alliances, classes, and more should be an important first step. How different might the world look if we prayed regularly for respect, collaboration, and unity?
How about we give it a try this week? I encourage you to join me in praying for these things this week, including the specific concerns within each area that God places on your heart.
- Sunday: Our society as a whole growing and working together
- Monday: Generations working together
- Tuesday: Races working together
- Wednesday: Social/economic classes together
- Thursday: Political camps working together
- Friday: Denominations and religions working together
- Saturday: Opening ourselves up to be a part of closing divides
