What a difference a week makes! I woke up grateful this morning for cooler temperatures, refreshing rain, and the prospect of an amazing weekend in Downtown Kansas City. Another reason I woke up grateful this morning was because I am feeling much better after being sick for the first part of the week. I am really excited for the weekend ahead. We'll be kicking off two weeks of live preaching at Resurrection Downtown. I'll be preaching a message on The Use of Negative Space and will be focusing on John 20, God's willingness to go with us wherever we may go (even into death), and the role that faith plays during some of our most challenging seasons of life. As a part of worship this weekend I'll also be sharing the story behind the new cross hanging in the sanctuary at 1601 Grand! I hope you'll join me and invite friends to join you as well, as we will have a great weekend in worship.
This weekend also marks the beginning of our third month in our new building. In our first 8 weeks at 1601 we have hosted more than 9000 adults in worship across our four services. When you compare that to last year's numbers, you'll find that we hosted just under 6000 adults during the same 8 weeks in 2017. That means we have had a significant increase in worship attendance (nearly 35%) since our Grand Opening and this increase has continued during the heat of the summer, typically our lowest attendance season of the year. What's more exciting is that our children's ministries have seen even greater increases over the same time! I am so grateful about what has happened over these past two months and I can't wait to see how God continues to lead us into the future. Our vision is to be used by God to change lives, strengthen churches and transform the world. I am grateful for the ways I get to see this happen daily. I want to encourage you to continue inviting people to join us on this journey of knowing, loving and serving God in the heart of this city.
We are now enrolling for RezDT Small Groups! Small groups are made up of individuals who meet regularly for connection and spiritual growth. If you are interested in joining one of our small groups, please register at cor.org/downtown/getconnected! Reach out to Pastor Matt.Bisel@cor.org with questions.
Whether you’re new to Resurrection Downtown or been attending a while, join us this Sunday for Getting Started right after the 10:45 am service, to hear RezDowntown’s story and learn about ways you can get involved. Snacks will be served! Reach out to Pastor Matt.Bisel@cor.org with questions.
Finally as a reminder, we are going to be hosting our final Vacation Bible Camp of the summer next Saturday, August 4th from 9am - 12pm at the Clymer Center (1301 Vine St. KCMO). It will be a fun-filled day with games, snacks, story time, lunch, and much more! Our final gathering's focus will be fixed on HOPE. To register your kids or sign up to volunteer, visit cor.org/downtown/vbc or email Katie.Ollenburger@cor.org. It is going to be a great experience.
I can't wait to see you this weekend, I'll be preaching live at every service and I hope you have a great and God blessed Friday!
With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,
Scott
