From the President
Dear Fellow Members:
On behalf of Congregation Beth Israel’s Board of Directors, I would like to wish you a very Happy Pesach.
By now many of you know that I have young kids…lots of them.
Lately, they have been learning about doubles in math, as in 4+4, 5+5, etc. After they “mastered” doubles, they moved on to “double
plus one,” equations, like…7+7+1 = 15. Coincidentally, the number 15 is a pretty common number in my life…
Last Saturday, I waited in line at Starbucks for 15 minutes!
I have a lot of 15 minute meetings at my office!
And, most importantly, I can cook ten different kids’ meals in 15 minutes!
These are all examples of important things to do in 15 minutes, but there are certainly some other great ways to spend 15 minutes.
Here are a few suggestions for you to spend 15 minutes at our synagogue. I promise, it will all be time well spent:
x Schedule and spend 15 minutes with Rabbi Kahn, and talk about anything Jewish. He is an expert on all things Jewish.
x Schedule and spend 15 minutes with Rabbi Keller, and talk about Israel. He can talk about the subject for hours, and you may find yourself signed up for his next Israel trip (or Rabbi Kahn’s this December), which could turn out to be the trip of a lifetime.
x Schedule 15 minutes with the Cantor to talk about becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah mentor. This experience enables adults to help our young men and women prepare for becoming B’nei Mitzvah, but from what I can see, it has a much bigger impact on the mentor (limited Hebrew knowledge necessary).
x Take a tour of our Mikveh, a rare site on the campus of a Reform congregation anywhere in the world.
x And my favorite…come by on a Sunday at around noon and join with the young kids’ Tefilah Service. These kids will be the
next generation of Jewish leaders in our community, and it will make you feel good to see their excitement about their Judaism.
Thank you very much for your continued support

Kol Rina - Voice of Joy: Shabbat and High Holy Day Music of CBI
Dear Friends,
This past summer I got together with Jackie Huber, John Henderson, Kalyani Weiss and our CBI choir to record twelve settings of our Shabbat and High Holy Day liturgy. Below you will find a link to six of these beautiful recordings which I want you to have as a belated Chanukkah gift. The full record including Avinu Malkeinu and Heal Us Now will be available for purchase in the next few weeks. This wonderful project couldn't have happened without the generosity and nspiration of Martin and Linda Shultz as well as the amazing talent of our producer/ orchestrator John Henderson. Special thanks to Mark Greenburg of Tresona Multimedia for setting up our website and of course to the rabbis and staff of CBI for their ongoing support and
encouragement for this project.
I have to acknowledge our wonderful singers who lent their beautiful voices to this recording. They are:
Donna Harris, Ruth Poles, Linda Breyer, Susan Sendrow, Barbara London, Lisa Andreotti, Kathy Diamond, Mia Portnoy, Olivia Lee, Leah Chanen, Lindsay Schawelson, Maya Schulder, Kalyani Weiss, Caroline Carrier, Lisanne Norman, Linda Weiss, Alexis Davis, Howard Weinstein, Lorraine Greenberg, Laurie Schwartz, Marjorie Kaplan,
Mike Robbins, Jonathan Schneider, Stuart Cohen, Antonio Lozano, Earl Hazell, and Andrew Sievers. I am so proud of this recording, and I am anxious to hear what you think. You may use the following link for a free download of the music. Click on the word Buy and fill your email address in to receive the free recordings.

“Camp Stein Needs a Pick-Up Truck”
As the camp offseason winds down, we are finishing off the finals stages of planning and organizing of what is sure
to be another memorable summer at Camp Daisy and Harry Stein. Enrollment is very high, with a good mix of new
and returning campers signed up for the summer. The staff is nearly fully hired. And renovations and new
construction are sure to be among the many highlights that go into producing more fabulous memories that will last
a lifetime.
Camp Stein needs your help. The camp is in need of a pick-up truck, 4 wheel drive preferred, with an open bed in
back to help haul heavy items and garbage around camp. If you have a vehicle of this type to donate, or know of
someone who does, please contact campdiretcor@cbiaz.org for more information. Thank you!
