DEADLINE FRIDAY, AUGUST 1ST
Dear Friends,
This year the High Holy Days begin on the
evening of September 24th. Yom Kippur, the
Day of Remembrance, begins on the evening of
October 3rd.
Congregation Beth Israel will continue its
tradition of publishing a MEMORIAL BOOK to
accompany the Yizkor Memorial Service on
Yom Kippur day. This is a most beautiful and
dignified way of honoring the memory of our
departed by combining the mitzvah of reciting
the Yizkor prayers with the mitzvah of giving
tzedakah.
This book gives us the opportunity to express
our affection and respect for our loved ones
and share their blessed memory with our
congregation.
Please note the order form on this page.
Available is a FULL GOLD page for $175, a
FULL WHITE page for $136, or a ½ WHITE
PAGE for $90. For a donation of $36, a
single name may be listed in the single line
listing section of the book. Each additional
name for the single line listing section may be
added for a donation of $25 each with a
maximum of 1 additional name. Please
participate with us in paying tribute to your
dearly departed. To insure inclusion in the
Yizkor Memorial Book, your request must be
received in the Temple office by Friday,
August 1st. Because we now print the
Memorial Book in house, our deadline is
earlier. This helps our staff to gather and
process all tributes and information over the
summer. The actual printing will begin in
August.
Best wishes for a year of good health,
happiness and peace.
Sincerely,
Terry Taubman
Executive Director

News and Notes
Plotkin Judaica Museum
The Jewish Historical Society in Phoenix will be having an exhibit titled Judaism in the Desert beginning in late August-early September. All valley synagogues will be involved. For those who may not know, the Jewish Historical Society is housed in CBI’s first location at 122 E. Culver Street in Phoenix.
All synagogues are asking their congregants to possibly submit an item or two in the following categories that may have a history in your family or used in your holiday ritual celebration. Shabbat (candle sticks, challah cover, Kiddush cup, yad), Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (shofar), Sukkot (etrog holder) Hanukkah (menorah, dreidel), Purim (Megillah, grogger), Passover (Seder plate, matzah cover) or anything special used in your family for Jewish holiday celebration.
The JHS is asking that you submit a photo and short description, including background information, size and family name, so that the JHS will know how many of each item they will have to use in their yearlong exhibit. Please know that your item may be at the
JHS for the entire year for a rotation of items to be displayed. If you have any questions, please call me at CBI or email at
library@cbiaz.org. Thank you!
