Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States - Lutheran Seminary God God Pause "Moved by the Promise" for Sunday, 29 June 2014 "Breathe On Me, Breath of God" LBW 488
1. Breathe on me, breath of God;
fill me with life anew,
that I may love all that you love
and do what you would do.
2. Breathe on me, breath of God,
until my heart is pure,
until with you I will one will
to do and to endure.
3. Breathe on me, breath of God;
so shall I never die,
but live with you the perfect life
of your eternity.
Sometimes I sit in the wind and let it rearrange me. You know what I mean.
In part, it feels the same as swimming underwater, where you begin to sense weightlessness, as if you're being carried by the currents alone, not certain where they will take you. The wind is like that. I've noticed on occasion how the wind reshuffles my hair and with it the thoughts hidden beneath. Nothing remains in place like I'd assumed. My need for self-control is challenged by the blowing of the wind, sometimes gently and at other times with noticeable force. Life cannot be lived as a solo performance. Ultimately I realize I am not my own but one who has been birthed by another. St. John writes, "The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."
Lord, I am not my own, but created and shaped by the breath of your Spirit. Arrange my life according to your purpose. Amen.
